Draw a Nissan to kill the lockdown boredom

KUALA LUMPUR: Most of us have lost count of the number of weeks we have been in the lockdown, and it’s getting difficult to keep ourselves entertained. To rescue comes Nissan with its #drawdrawdraw initiative.

Suitable for car enthusiasts of all ages, it is a chance to create your own designs and artwork. Adding to the fun, Nissan’s design team has put up a collection of images featuring classic cars, futuristic concepts, even some lesser-known cult classics, along with current models that can be downloaded to fill colours. It will not only be a means to do something productive in the lockdown but will also be an avenue to connect with artists worldwide.

Nissan’s senior vice president for global design, Alfonso Albaisa, said, “To draw, draw, draw, in our world, is one of the best ways to close the gap between wonderful creative impulses in your head and making it a reality – especially as we face this global pandemic together. Our team of designers, worldwide, are using this time to breathe, to draw, to dream creatively. I know that some of their best work will come from the challenges that we’re facing now. So we thought, ‘Why not give everyone a chance to express themselves creatively and share it with those who will appreciate it?.”

Many Nissan designer’s worldwide have shared their designs with the public, motivating them to draw as it is a good stress reliever. You can also upload and tag your original design to the downloadable colouring book or on social media with the hashtag #drawdrawdraw.

Albaisa said, "We’re looking forward to celebrating passion and creativity,” said Albaisa. “Don’t be surprised if you see a Nissan designer comment on your drawings and artwork.”

Nissan’s effort to promote staying indoors, social distancing, or just plain creativity is helping us fight against the pandemic. The automaker has also repurposed many of its production lines to help manufacture PPE (personal protective equipment) as auto production has been halted following the global crisis.

In Japan, the Nissan Research Center, the Nissan Technical Center, and its Yokohama Plant will all be manufacturing 2,500 face shields per month. Also, the company’s plants in the UK and the USA will be contributing similarly.

Also, Nissan Spain will begin the production of medical equipment starting this week, while Nissan Japan is looking into ways to support companies producing artificial heart-lung machines and ventilators by assisting in the production and supplying of the parts.
