Daihatsu partners with Free Tree Society to launch Rewilding Roadshow for sustainable lifestyles

KUALA LUMPUR: Daihatsu, the Japanese automaker, has partnered with Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur (FTS) as a key sponsor to launch a campaign called Rewilding Roadshow to encourage locals towards sustainable lifestyles and biodiversity by planting trees in their vicinity and establishing green spaces at homes.

With the initiative already getting underway, Daihatsu aims at providing a starter base of knowledge and plants to ordinary people for taking home. Not only this will contribute to biodiversity amidst the global loss of wildlife and climate change but also benefit the homeowners and their families. For the same, the plants have been chosen wisely. 

The president of FTS, Baida Hercus said, “Many homeowners pave over their garden spaces or leave balconies bare, resulting in hot, sterile spaces. As Malaysia becomes more urbanised, there is a break in the transmission of knowledge about planting and the benefits of biodiverse green spaces. Many urban Malaysians simply do not know appropriate plants to grow in their environment and how to care for them.”

The senior manager of corporate planning, product and marketing at Daihatsu Malaysia, Muhammad Fahmi said, “Daihatsu Malaysia first formulated the ‘Rewilding Roadshow’ environmental initiatives exclusively with FTS in mid-June of 2019. This year, celebrating our 40 Years of establishment in Malaysia, we’ll be kicking off 2020 by embodying global Daihatsu Group ‘Light You Up: Action’ in promoting sustainable environmental conservation through yet another exciting collaboration, this time with FTS and Taman Tugu Project.”

Daihatsu already has the Environmental Action Plan 2030 in place which is in-line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and according to the automaker, Rewilding Roadshow naturally fits the bill and blends with their philosophy perfectly. The brand’s philosophy states, “Harmonious coexistence with the earth and society is our responsibility.”

Taman Tugu, a forest park in Kuala Lumpur, will be the base of operations which is a carbon sink for the Klang Valley. As a part of the initiative, people will get plants for free on public holidays and weekends. People are free to visit the park when it’s open for inspiration.

Fahmi further said, “With Daihatsu Green Van strategically placed at Taman Tugu Nursery, we aim to enhance the brand confidence with a close affinity to its park residents, communities as well as foreign visitors together in achieving zero-balance environment load vehicle carbon emissions.”
