COVID Update: Proton is vaccinating its staff members
KUALA LUMPUR: Good news for Proton employees, as the automaker has begun the COVID-19 vaccination programme. This in turn will help Proton restart operations.
Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton, while commenting on the program said, “Proton hopes that by vaccinating our staff, we will contribute to reducing the number of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia. With other companies undertaking similar initiatives, this should help in efforts to restart the automotive industry that has been put on hold by lockdown measures.”
Proton’s staff from its Shad Alam and Tanjung Malim operation base who are not yet vaccinated were notified about their appointments through the MySejahtera app. In order to ensure that everyone who opted-in for the vaccine receives their first dose, the program is spread out over several days.
At Tanjung Malim, Proton together with the Federal and State authorities repurposed its sports complex into an industry vaccine dispensing centre (PPVIN). The centre will be in operation for six days with a max daily volume of approx 800, thus ensuring all the Proton staff and vendors are vaccinated.
The Proton staff in Shah Alam will get vaccinated at the Shah Alam Convention Centre as the automaker's premises is not big enough for a temporary PPV.
The Proton vaccination drive started on 12th July, the exercise will be repeated after three weeks for staff to receive their second dose of vaccine. Most of Proton's staff is expected to be fully vaccinated by the first half of August.
