Could we see the new Nissan Sylphy at 2019 Auto Shanghai?
KUALA LUMPUR: With the Shanghai Auto Show just two weeks away, manufacturers are giving us information as to what we can expect. Japanese automaker Nissan will apparently use the event to introduce an all-new sedan. The company provided no information as to what we can expect, all they said was that the model will feature “Nissan’s latest distinctive design cues” and an “array of technologies that embody Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”
Even though this information is not much to go with, rumours suggest that it could be the new Sylphy (also goes by Sentra in some markets). The leaked images of the redesigned sedan from earlier this year support this conclusion. The car had a bold new design taking cues from its brothers, the Altima and Maxima.
If the leaked images are anything to go by, the new Sylphy will have a sleek, aggressive look. Starting at the front, Nissan’s V-motion grille dominates the face with sharp angular housings for the fog lamps. The slim headlights complete the look at the front with ‘boomerang’ style DRLs that join the grille. The side view of the new Sylphy features a ‘kink’ near the C-pillar, a trait common among new Nissan models. A small blacked out section on the C-pillar gives the illusion of a floating roof and along with the raked roofline, the new Sylphy looks rather sporty. Moving around back, the wraparound taillights and prominent diffuser give the new Sylphy a rather smart look.
The design is not that only thing that has changed, the new car is also bigger than the model it replaces. The new Sylphy measures 4,641 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, 1,450 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,712 mm. This makes it 10 mm longer, 55 mm wider, 53 mm shorter, and with a 12 mm longer wheelbase than the current Sylphy.
Powering the new Nissan sedan could be an upgraded 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine which makes 139 PS. Nissan will reveal all details at Auto Shanghai in a few weeks, till then we will have to sit tight. We can also expect to see Nissan IM and IMQ concepts at the auto show.
