Chery kicks off construction of Smart Auto Industrial Park in Hulu Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR:  Construction of the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Hulu Selangor is officially underway following a groundbreaking ceremony attended by key figures from both the public and private sectors.

The 200-acre facility is part of the larger 800-acre Beringin High-Tech Auto Valley (Beringin HTA Valley), with production set to begin in 2026.

Once operational, the plant will produce up to 100,000 vehicles annually, with capacity to ramp up to 300,000 units. Alongside internal combustion engine (ICE) models, the facility will focus on plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and energy-efficient (EEV) vehicles.

The project represents a RM2.2 billion investment spread over five years.

The groundbreaking was attended by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah, the Raja Muda of Selangor and Royal Patron of Invest Selangor, as well as Selangor EXCO for Investment, Trade, and Mobility, YB Tuan Ng Sze Han.

Chery Automobile Co., Ltd Chairman Yin Tongyue, Chery International President Zhang Guibing, Chery Corporate Malaysia Executive Vice President Leo Chen, and key representatives from Legenda Beringin and Ruby Technique Sdn Bhd also participated in the event.

Chery International President Zhang Guibing stated that the company is committed to establishing advanced manufacturing facilities and integrating modern automotive technologies in Malaysia.

“Chery is proud to be an integral part of this visionary development, where we will establish state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, integrate cutting-edge smart technologies, and produce an extensive range of vehicles—from internal combustion engine (ICE) models to the latest in plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric (BEV), and energy-efficient vehicle (EEV) technologies,” said Zhang.

He added that the facility will create skilled jobs, support exports to neighbouring countries, and strengthen Malaysia’s automotive supply chain.

Legenda Beringin Chairman Chia Song Kooi highlighted the project’s broader economic impact. “This project is more than a land investment. It supports Malaysia’s aspiration of being a high-tech and sustainable industrial economy by 2030, which is in line with the New Industrial Master Plan. We are grateful for the confidence placed in us by Chery, and for the dedicated support of the Selangor State Government, Invest Selangor, and many other local authorities and agencies. With unity, determination, and shared ambition, we are confident in making this vision a reality,” said Chia.

The Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park marks the first phase of the Beringin HTA Valley development, which aims to position Hulu Selangor as a hub for automotive innovation and technology. The remaining land will be developed to support the automotive supply chain, vocational training, and related industries.

This investment reflects growing interest from global automakers in Malaysia’s automotive sector, with Selangor emerging as a key destination for high-tech manufacturing.
