Check out the track-only Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro hypercar
KUALA LUMPUR: Aston Martin has unveiled the 1000 bhp Valkyrie AMR Pro. This one is a track-only version of its new hypercar that ditches the hybrid mill for a pure combustion-engine powertrain. The automaker claims it will lap the Le Mans 24 Hours circuit in just 3 mins 20 secs.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro hypercar is based on the now-abandoned plans to build a Le Mans Hypercar racing version of the Valkyrie that was being developed by Aston Martin, Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and Multimatic. The original idea resulted in a concept car shown at the 2018 Geneva Auto Show.
Now, the Valkyrie AMR Pro is based on the concept car and since it does not require to meet the motorsport regulations, the automaker was able to experiment in a few areas. As a result, the capabilities of the car have exceeded the original concept.
Aston Martin CEO, Tobias Moers said, “The entire Aston Martin Valkyrie programme has been an extraordinary adventure in engineering.” He further added, “Valkyrie AMR Pro is a project beyond compare, a true ‘no rules’ track-only version. Nothing else looks like it, nothing else sounds like it, and I am absolutely certain nothing else will drive like it!”
What all Aston Martin has pushed in terms of design? Well, since the Valkyrie AMR Pro does not need to meet the racing regulations, the automaker has extended its wheelbase by 380 mm and the chassis track by 96 mm and 115 mm at the front and rear. The length has been increased by 260 mm thanks to the new aerodynamic package. The downforce has been increased by more than double.
What powers the Valkyrie AMR Pro hypercar?
The car retains the same engine as the 2018 concept car, i.e., a 6.5-litre Cosworth V12 mill. However, to save weight, the automaker has removed the hybrid system. The mill produces more than 1000 bhp and has been tuned to rev to 11,000 rpm.
Over and above all, the car has also undergone major weight reduction. How? Apart from removing the hybrid system, it gets ‘ultra-lightweight carbon fibre bodywork, perspex windscreen & side windows, and carbon suspension wishbones.
Aston Martin will be manufacturing 40 units of the Valkyrie AMR Pro hypercar. All left-hand driven with deliveries commencing by the end of this year.
