The new Maserati GranCabrio is likely to be offered in both ICE and electric ‘Folgore’ guises. The new GranCabrio will be available in both ICE and electric ‘Folgore’ guises. For those who are not aware, Maserati introduced the “Folgore” sub-brand for electrified vehicles back in 2020. By “electrified,” the automaker meant both hybrid and pure battery-powered vehicles initially, but later on, it pivoted as per Stellantis’ revamped electrification strategy and announced the arrival of BEV versions of each of its models by 2025.
In line with the strategy, the brand has already introduced the two BEVs - Grecale Folgore and GranTurismo Folgore with the GranCabrio EV to be the third one in the electric lineup. The latter is expected to be equipped with three electric motors (two at the rear, one at the front) along with 800-volt battery technology.
As for the Internal combustion setup, a toned-down iteration of the MC20’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 powering the latest GranTurismo is expected. The said mill is good for making 490 PS of maximum power and 600 Nm of peak torque. Shifting duties are handled by an eight-speed automatic transmission, enabling the car to run from zero to 100 kmph in 3.9 seconds only.
In terms of design, the cabriolet’s prototype wrapped in camouflage does not reveal much, however, we can figure out the distinctive grille on the front, a fabric roof, rear lighting signature and double tailpipes on each side.
A few changes between the GranTurismo and GranCabrio are also anticipated in the cabin such as the different seating capacity. However, the 12.2-inch digital instrument console, 12.3-inch infotainment unit and 8.8-inch touchscreen on the central console are likely to be the same.
As mentioned above, Maserati will introduce the new GranCabrio in 2023 with more information dropping along the way. So, sit tight.
