Check out the 765 unit limited McLaren 765 LT Spider

KUALA LUMPUR: Remember the McLaren 765LT coupe that was unveiled by the automaker last March? Well, the latest McLaren 765 LT Spider is the convertible version of the same model and just like the fixed-roof version, it is limited to 765 units. Price? Hefty for sure, it’s 310,500 British pounds that roughly translates to RM 1.8 million.

Since it is the convertible version of the previously released 765LT coupe, it would be fair to first talk about the one-piece, carbon fibre roof. The unit is electrically operated, can be lowered or raised at speed up to 50 kmph via a dedicated control on the dashboard. Further, McLaren claims the entire process to take 11 seconds to complete making its roof mechanism one of the quickest and quietest in the world. On its quietness, we’d like to add that customers experienced a sound no louder than 60 dBA, which is twice as quiet as the previous 675LT Spider.

What else?

  • Extended roof length pushes the A-pillar further forward by 80 mm, thus creating an enhanced sense of space and easier ingress and egress via larger door openings
  • Its well-engineered MonoCage II-S carbon-fibre monocoque ensures the same structural strength and stiffness as the coupe
  • The 765LT Spider is weighed 49 kg more than the coupe (thanks to the retractable roof and its operating mechanism) and 80 kg lighter than the 720S Spider
  • The rear window can be lowered at a push of a button

Power details?

The 765 unit limited McLaren 765LT Spider is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 mill that makes a maximum power of 765 PS at 7,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 800 Nm at 5,500 rpm. The power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed Sequential Shift Gearbox.

Performance figures?

Like the coupe, the convertible version completes the century sprint in 2.8 seconds and it attains a top speed of 330 kmph.

Other similarities include -

  • Adaptive dampers
  • Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres wrapped in 20-inch forged wheels
  • Proactive Chassis Control
  • Carbon-ceramic brake disc with six-piston front & four-piston rear forged aluminium calipers
  • Aerodynamic body-work (front splitter, side skirts, new front bumper, lower door blades, wraparound rear bumper, and active rear wing)
  • Titanium exhaust system with quad tailpipes
  • Lithium-ion battery

Furthermore, the cabin too is identical to the coupe, it features the same weight-saving measures like - net door pockets, extensive use of carbon fibre, carbon--fibre seats trimmed in Alcantara, Alcantara wrapped doors, and dashboard.

Though like the coupe the automaker has removed the audio system, air-con system, and floor carpets, however, customers get the former two at no additional cost. It also gets several optional features available at additional cost.
