Check out Hyundai’s upcoming mobility innovation lab in South East Asia
KUALA LUMPUR: Moving forward, Hyundai wants to be recognised as a mobility solutions company. Under its Strategy 2025, Hyundai outlines its plan by providing more vehicle electrification via two core pillars - smart mobility services along with smart mobility devices.
Hyundai wants to provide more than just vehicles that would take its customers from point A to B. The company wants to develop more electric vehicles, fully-autonomous vehicles, offer online car-based services, and provide car-sharing and robotaxis that can drive by themselves.
However, to bring this ambitious plan to reality, Hyundai needs to establish R&D sites to explore new mobility solution ideas and accelerate the development of new business concepts. And comes into picture Hyundai Mobility Global Innovation Center (HMGIC).
Hyundai describes HMGIC as an open innovation lab where new ideas will be explored to revolutionize the R&D process, and concepts will be developed to make mobility solutions a reality. The HMGIC is set to be located at Singapore’s Jurong Innovation District on a 44,000 sq meter site. The facility will house a dynamic ecosystem of researchers, training, and technologies. It will be one of Hyundai’s most advanced facilities.
Hyundai Motor Company President, Bo Shin Seo, said, “HMGIC will be a test-bed to explore and validate the future Hyundai is envisioning. Combining Hyundai’s innovative spirit and Singapore’s fertile atmosphere, we will develop ground-breaking businesses and future technologies.”
Singapore’s Economic Development Board, Assistant Managing Director, Tan Kong Hwee, said that the addition of the HMGIC is a welcome move in the country’s growing mobility ecosystem.
Hwee said, “The Hyundai Mobility Global Innovation Center is an exciting addition to Singapore’s growing Mobility ecosystem. Its focus on innovative business concepts and the development of a smart manufacturing platform leverages the research and innovation capabilities and the value that Singapore provides to companies that want to develop, test-bed, and create new solutions for the world”.
HMGIC construction will start in May of this year, and the company is optimistic about expanding new business opportunities in Singapore and other global markets.
