Budget 2016: Extension for MRT,LRT and updates for BRT,HSR.
KUALA LAMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the prime minister and the finance minister of Malaysia has announced the budget and has highlighted the public transport systems. The Rail lines which are currently progressing are the MRT and LRT extension lines.The budget showcased the timeline for Ampang Line LRT extension which is 18.1 km long and will be ready by March 2016. The Kelana Jaya Line LRT extension will be operational by mid-2006. It is 17.4 km long and runs till Putra Heights. Both the above projects cost is estimated at RM 10 billion.

For MRT extension, the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line is presently constructed which is Malaysia's biggest and costliest public infrastructure project. The first phase of the extension, Sungai Buloh to Semantan (near Pusat Bandar Damansara and Bangsar) will be operational by December 2016 and the second phase from Semantan to Kajang is decided to be operational by mid-2017. The cost of the second extension of MRT SBK line costs around RM 32 billion and is 51 km long.

With ongoing above projects, the next phase will be included under MRT 2 project, which will cover the distance of 52 km from Sungai Buloh to Serdang. As estimated, this phase will be beneficial for two million people with a cost of RM28 billion. The construction for the phase will start in the second quarter of 2016 and is expected to finish by 2022.LRT 3 line will operate from Bandar Utama in Damansara to Johan Setia in Klang. It is 36 km long line and is set to be a beneficial source for two million residents of Klang Valley. The estimated cost of the line is RM 10 billion. The work will start from next year and will continue till 2010.
The Bus Rapid Transit( BRT) made its debut in the Sunway/Subang neighbourhood early this year. There will be a line from KL to Klang on an allocated cost of RM 1.5 billion. The people in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah can look forward to a BRT line worth RM1 billion.
At last, the discussions and negotiations for KL-Singapore Hight Speed Rail (HSR) will be continued by the government.
