Borgward's Luxury SUV Set to Debut in September
KUALA LUMPUR: Borgward, a German automobile manufacturer after facing a terrible time way back in 1961, which led to shut off the doors for the company is set to give another shot with its luxury SUV scheduled to debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The company has revealed a couple of teaser pictures of their first luxury SUV, one of which is a spy camouflaged image, while the other is a partial rear view of the SUV uncovered by the officials.
The company's revival happened due to a collaboration with the Chinese car brand, Beiqi Foton, which is famous for developing global commercial vehicles including truck, van, bus and SUV. The global headquarters of Borgward has been established in Stuttgart. Borgward brand was founded by Carl F. W. Borgward in 1929, which is now under the supervision of Christian Borgward, grandson of the founder.
Details about the new launch haven't been out yet, but it is likely to come in both drivetrains, 2WD and 4WD, bestowed with petrol and diesel engines along with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The car will be manufactured in China, however, its design phase remains in Germany. The new SUV will go on sale in the Chinese market first followed by the other global markets.
"I am convinced that Borgward will recover its place on the International automobile market," said Ulrich Walker, ex-Daimler-Manager, who is now the new chairman of the Board at Borgward. The company also has plans to outclass the competitors in the market and aims to sell 800,000 units per year by 2020.
