BMW X3 comes under probe, reportedly emitting 11 times the legal limit of nitrogen oxide
Kuala Lumpur: Volkswagen is facing severe law issues under the “Dieselgate” scam, but VW may not be the only German automaker ensnared by this whole diesel debacle. The latest reports suggest that BMW could also come under the probe. According to Bloomberg, the X3 xDrive20d is emitting nitrogen oxide 11 times over the European legal limit for emissions, during tests conducted by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). The results suggest that BMW X3 is breaching the Euro 6 limit for diesel engine emissions.

International Council on Clean Transportation is the same organization which triggered the investigation into Volkswagen that further led to the automaker's admission that it cheated on emissions tests for its diesel vehicles and the subsequent resignation of its chief executive.
Peter Mock, MD of the ICCT’s European arm said that, “All measured data suggest that this is not a VW-specific issue, it remains to be seen as to whether or not the allegations aimed at BMW prove true.”
Meanwhile, BMW has denied all such accusations and claims that the company does not employ similar tactics used by Volkswagen to pass emissions tests. Also, BMW's X5 diesel passed the same test which Volkswagen failed in California.

BMW has released an official statement it does not manipulate or rig any emissions tests, also the company being meticulous observes the legal requirements in each country and fulfill all local testing requirements. The German maker has confirmed that it will contact the ICCT “for clarification of the test they carried out.”

Whatever may be the truth in BMW's case, but it is evident that the company's stock fell as much as 9.7 percent the most it has lost in over four years since the VW news surfaced the market reports Bloomberg. Its rival automaker Daimler has also dropped by 5.8 percent and Volkswagen has already lost over $20 billion in market value in the midst of the scandal.
The German government and the European Union are now considering to implement more restrictive standards and more thorough testing on diesel engines so that this mishappening could not happen in the future.
