BMW to pave way for its most powerful diesel engine yet with quad-turbo technology
Kuala Lumpur: If the current engine in BMW models were not enough powerful for you, the German auto marque is coming up with a more robust engine dubbed as B57 TOP. The debutant quad-turbo inline-six diesel engine is set to replace the current tri-turbo diesel engine and would be used for the first time in 2016 BMW 750d. It will probably be offered in other future BMW models too like X5 M50d, X6 M50d and X7 M50d. As compared to the tri turbo concept, four turbochargers should allow a faster response, a broader powerband, a better fuel efficiency and of-course an increase in power and torque, as reported by the company.

While there is a scarcity of information for now, but this all-new engine is believed to deliver a power somewhere near 400 hp and 800 Nm of torque. These specs turns out to be impressive as compared to its most powerful engine which is currently placed in BMW 730d delivering a power of 261 hp along with a torque of 620 Nm while the M550d has a engine which churns out a maximum power of 381 hp and a torque measuring 740 Nm. The power of B57 TOP would be channeled through an eight speed automatic gearbox and an xDrive all-wheel drive system to all four wheels.

Due to lack of information, it also remains unclear that whether or not BMW will offer four classic turbochargers or an electrically driven turbo being added to the previous tri-turbo setup. Whatever be their next step, it would surely be beneficial for the BMW riders. Until then, all we can do is wait for its official launch planned in 2016.
