BMW previews the i Vision Dee EV concept at 2023 CES

KUALA LUMPUR: Among several jaw-dropping technologies exhibited at the recently concluded Consumer Electronic Show 2023 was the “BMW i Vision Dee” where ‘Dee’ stands for Digital Emotional Experience. The concept is described as the "next level of human-machine interaction", which the German marque aims to offer with its next-generation electric models. 

BMW’s upcoming EVs will be based on the Neue Klasse platform, which will make a debut in 2025 with a 3-Series-sized dynamic sedan, followed by a sporty activity vehicle, equivalent to the X3.

With the i Vision Dee concept, BMW shows off a few futuristic tech features to the world, including 

• Colour-changing exterior: The German automaker earlier displayed the colour-changing feature of the car’s exterior colour with the iX Flow, which underpinned E Ink technology and was able to change black into white and vice-versa. Well, now it has come up with an upgraded version of the tech which can change the exterior in up to 32 colours. It features a total of 240 sections that can be controlled individually

• BMW Mixed Reality Slider: The Mixed Reality Slider can control the vehicle with the help of five connected dots (touch sensors) positioned on the fabric-covered dashboard

• Immersive head-up display: A driver-centric digital experience projecting visuals across the entire width of the windscreen. It contains informative graphics as well as augmented reality features

• Intuitive digital assistant: The digital assistant named as ‘Dee’ can interact with the occupants in a more natural-sounding language offering a more intuitive experience

The new BMW concept looks retro in terms of style blending the core history of BMW with well-defined lines, big glass surfaces, and sporty details such as creases in the bonnet and flared wheel arches. The kidney-like cutouts are still positioned on the closed grille.

While commenting on the BMW i Vision Dee Concept, Frank Weber, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG said, "A BMW lives by its unparalleled digital performance. BMW i Vision Dee is about the perfect integration of virtual and physical experiences. Whoever excels at integrating the customer's everyday digital worlds into the vehicle at all levels will succeed in mastering the future of car-building."
