BMW Malaysia launches M2 Competition
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia has finally launched the new M2 Competition. This M model first made its global debut in April 2018 and is the smallest in the lineup. It replaces the M2 LCI and is costlier at RM 626,800 (on the road without insurance), however, it does come with a lot of improvements. Included in the price is a two-year tyre warranty programme, a five-year/unlimited mileage with free scheduled service programme, BMW Service Online, BMW White Card through Loyalty+ Mobile App access, and BMW Service Online.
Under the hood, the M2 gets the M3 and M4 mill, though the S55 here is detuned. So, no more the standard N55 powerplant that many considered unworthy of the M model. It is to be noted that the S55 here comes with a dedicated exhaust system (featuring two electrically controlled flaps and a dual branch design with 4 tailpipes), BMW M4 Competition Package cooling system, and motorsport derived oil supply system.
Talking about the performance figures, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder churns 410 PS at 5,250 to 7,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 550 Nm from 2,350 to 5,200 rpm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed M Double Clutch Transmission along with an Active M Differential. However, on special request, you can get the M2 Competition with a 6-speed manual gearbox. With the above configuration, the car can complete the 0 to 100 kmph run in 4.2 seconds and 4.4 seconds with a DTC and manual unit, respectively. The Malaysian-spec M2 Competition misses out on the M Drive Package and can, therefore, tap 250 kmph and not 280 kmph.
The car also gets the Carbon-Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) from the M3 and M4. It is found in the engine bay and works with the bulkhead strut to increase front section rigidity for enhanced steering precision and behaviour.
On the exterior, the list of revisions includes a large, conjoined double kidney grille, LED headlamps, large air intakes with three slim slots, 19-inch Style 473 M double-spoke alloy wheels, double-arm door mirrors, and a dedicated badge on the tailgate.
The cabin is plush and premium as one can imagine. The M2 Competition features Dakota leather upholstery with contrast stitching, anthracite headliner, sport seats, and carbon-fibre trim finishers. Its equipment list consists of dual-zone climate control, BMW Navigation system Professional with an 8.8-inch touchscreen, powered front seats with driver-side memory function, BMW M Laptimer, and 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
The car is available in four color options - Long Beach Blue Metallic, Alpine White, Hockenheim Silver Metallic, and Black Sapphire Metallic.
