BMW Malaysia is now taking orders for the new G15 8 Series

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia has started accepting bookings for its new G15 8 Series, which was revealed back in June 2018. Interested buyers can register for the car via BMW website. The company, however, hasn’t revealed any details about the pricing and variant that will be offered.

The 8 Series was first showcased through the similarly-named Concept 8 Series at BMW Luxury Excellence Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur, back in February 2018. The grand tourer carries a more artistic design with a sporty outlook, thanks to the number of curves and lines on and around the engine lid and entire front fiasco.

Owing to the lack of official confirmation, all the guesses are being made around the two variants that are available in the market. First being the 840d xDrive that has carbon black metallic paint with deep blue tinge covering the body and a bean-shaped glossy metal grille with vertical ventilation at the front. On the engine side, the car is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six diesel mill that churns a maximum power of 320 PS and 680 Nm of torque. It can touch the 100 kmph mark in just 4.9 seconds and delivers a mileage of around 16.7 kmpl.

The other is the M850i xDrive that retains a fair degree of similarity with its diesel counterpart in terms of cosmetics. This vehicle comes with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 (an upgraded version of the M550i) unit that delivers a maximum power output of 530 PS and 750 Nm of torque. This engine helps it to reach 100 kmph mark faster than the 840d xDrive, with a margin of 1.2 seconds. Both the engines (petrol and diesel) are equipped with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission with BMW’s proprietary all-wheel-drive system.
