BMW M3 Competition: Explaining its superior technology

BMW Malaysia launched the new M3 Competition only a while back and since its arrival, the sedan is making a lot of headlines, for its exhilarating performance, striking looks, and whatnot.

Today, we’ll be discussing its superior technology and how they make it a luxury car in every sense. But before that let’s first have a look at some of its highlights -

 

• The BMW M3 Sedan gets the high-performance BMW M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder petrol engine making a maximum power of 510 hp

• The mill features the striking characteristic M engine sound along with superior power delivery
• Outstanding performance is ensured by the mill’s two mono-scroll turbochargers, fully variable valve control, direct High Precision Injection, and variable camshaft control
• The power is sent to the wheels via a fast 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic

• The gearbox offers several shifting options including fuel-saving, extremely dynamic, smooth and comfortable
• Customers can opt for either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive M xDrive option. The later comes with Active M Differential assuring maximum driving dynamics and traction
• The sedan completes the century sprint in 3.5 seconds
• The M Compound brakes are made using various materials making them extremely stable and lightweight. Also, they help achieve outstanding deceleration values

• The M Sport exhaust system delivers dynamic sound which the driver can modify via the integrated exhaust valve mechanism
• Its roof is made up of carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) that helps reduce the car’s mass and shift the centre of gravity lower.
• Leading to enhanced agility and dynamics when braking, accelerating or taking a bend

• The cabin gets multi-adjustable M Sport seats with bucket seat character and partly integrated headrest offer excellent lateral support
• The M leather steering wheel with contoured thumb rest offer maximum control, and an athletic steering experience

M specific instrument cluster

This one here offers a precise and focused display of data in the TRACK and SPORT modes. Information like tyre pressure or boot pressure and temperature are always in view. The M MODE button allows one to carry configuration and operation

BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation

It includes two high-quality displays - a high-resolution 10.25-inch touch control display and a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument display

M Setup

This feature allows the driver to configure various driving dynamics parameters like engine, steering characteristics, transmission, Dynamic Stability Control intensity, damper settings, and even power distribution of the M xDrive AWD system as per requirement

BMW Head-Up Display

This one here is a full-colour head-up display with M specific functions, it projects information relevant to the journey directly into the driver’s field of vision. Also, with a press of a button driver can switch to M specific display that includes rpm as dynamic range curve, gear indicator and more

Centre console control panel

The centre console comes with a control panel that’s easy to reach and opens the menu for individual adjustments to driving dynamics

Digital key

Your smartphone can be your key for your BMW! The Digital Key option allows the user to convert his/her iPhone into a digital key through which the car can be locked or unlocked and even be started. At a time five people with iPhones can be authorised to use the car.

Remote software upgrade

Over the air software upgrade assures your BMW is always up to date

Other connectivity & digital services

The sedan comes with smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), Wi-Fi hotspot, a wireless charging dock, a second microphone for better hands-free voice quality. Also, Bluetooth connectivity allows two mobile devices and an audio player connectivity at a time

Intelligent Personal Assistant

The Intelligent Personal Assistant allows you to communicate with the car. The system gets better every day and will help you in every possible way. The owner can assign a personal activation word too

Parking Assistant Plus
This feature makes parking and manoeuvering super easy, via aids like Surround View system, lateral parking aid, Parking Assistant with longitudinal and lateral guidance and Reversing Assistant, etc
