BMW i8 cop car concept revealed by AC Schnitzer
KUALA LUMPUR: Famous tuner AC Schnitzer has brought a police car concept based on the new BMW i8 Coupe, called the Polizei i8. It is not new that cop cars are made with a supercar as its base. We have seen Italy’s cops using Lamborghini cars for highway work.
The brand new cop car from BMW is wrapped in an immense police livery. On the top of the roof, a Hella light bar is placed that helps to project AC Schnitzer logo. Also, side wings, custom-made bonnet, and a new front diffuser, all are made of fibre.
On the inside, the Polizei i8 features aluminium pedals and AC Schnitzer shift paddles. The iDrive controller also gets an aluminium cover. It rides on the 21-inch wheels, which gets Anthracite and dual-tone finish.
Speaking of the performance, the i8 comes with an eDrive plug-in hybrid system from BMW. A three-cylinder, 1.5-litre petrol engine and is coupled with an electric motor. The petrol engine is capable of churning out 228 hp of power along with a peak torque of 320 Nm, while the e-motor doles out 141 hp. A six-speed Steptronic transmission sends the power to the rear wheels. The e-motor further powers the front wheels by setting up the link with a 2-speed automatic gearbox.
The i8 facelift features a 355V battery, which is bigger than before and results in increasing the cell capacity and enhancing the gross energy capacity. The system is now offering a better electric range (55 km).
AC Schnitzer has not tweaked the performance, and it remains the same as the i8. The overall system is capable of belting out a maximum power of 369 hp. It can speed up from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph.
