BMW i4 electric sedan final testing video released, launch expected this year
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has been working on the i4 electric sedan for quite some time now. Over the past few months, the model has been spotted during the testing on the Nurburgring as well as on the North Pole. And, now the Bavarian automaker released a new video and set of images from the i4's final testing, which shows the drifting capabilities of the upcoming model.
While explaining the driving feeling of the i4, the project manager David Alfredo Ferrufino Camacho said, “The BMW i4 conveys the feeling of being light and agile yet also solid and authoritative. With its superior directional reliability and high level of cornering stability, it seems to literally attach itself to the road. All electric vehicles are capable of fast straight-line acceleration. But that’s not enough for us at BMW.”
According to Ferrufino, the upcoming i4 achieves both a sporty and comfortable feeling. And, it also allows two-finger drifting.
Based on the BMW 4 Series, the electric i4 will have a fifth-generation eDrive powertrain under the bonnet to offer a maximum output of up to 530 PS. The setup will feature an 80 kWh battery pack with a 150-kW DC fast charging capability. In terms of performance, the fastest variant is likely to have a 0-100 kmph run of around 4 seconds. BMW also claims that the i4 will sport a driving range of 372 miles.
Talking about the interiors, the i4 looks richly appointed in the concept images. Sharing its underpinnings with the 3-series sedan, it features rose gold trim, leather upholstery, and light wood trim across the cabin. Expected tech features include a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay compatibility and gesture-operated controls, a fully digital gauge cluster, wireless phone charging, and so on.
Set to fight against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 and Audi e-tron GT, the BMW i4 EV is expected to hit the US market by the end of 2021.
