BMW i4 Concept teased ahead of final production
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has been teasing its all-new electric concept car, at frequent intervals. As the Geneva Motor Show stands cancelled, the world will not see this newest offering getting unveiled at a global stage. So, the German automaker decided to pacify the excited audience and did a live stream of the car's unveiling. But for the BMW fans out there, a French automotive forum has also released a couple of photos, displaying the futuristic BMW i4 Concept.
Various automakers took to the online platform and started hosting premiers of their new cars after the Geneva show cancellation, so why should BMW be far behind. The i4 Concept was supposedly the main star at the Swiss show.
What we can clearly make out from the teaser images is- this is the real deal, the official BMW i4 Concept. This implies that i4 Concept design will be in the same spirit as the Concept 4 and certainly the production version will be strikingly similar.
Outfitted in a beautiful shade of muted gold, this Concept car is sure to showcase BMW press stills. The sharp lines and larger grille are very much what we saw in the 4-series teasers earlier. Angular headlights are also very well proportioned. So, the front fascia is very much what we expected. Carrying an overall bold and aggressive look, BMW’s concept i4 does full justice to the picturesque design language of BMW’s vision concepts. Overall, the front face of the car has a very nice interpretation of BMW’s famous Hofmeister Kink.
Side face of the car shows a long hood, aggressive lines on the doors, and a nice, swooping rear end that ultimately gets cut off in a sharp space at the trunk lid.
Talking about the rear fascia, it seems a bit bland but still is at par with the BMW concepts. It sports massive rear diffusers at either side of the rear end, rather than one continuous diffuser, which is unusual but catches an interesting sight. The car also dons a very sporty and athletic look, thanks to muscular rear haunches and adequately short overhangs.
Going to the interior aesthetics of the car, it is far more meticulous and sophisticated, than we expected. Intricacies on the inside comprise of a light grey/white/bronze color scheme that looks very futuristic. It’s also the most high-tech looking BMW cabin, with two massive screens on the dashboard, similar to those found on Mercedes-Benz products. Seemingly, the screen is curvaceous and bends a little forth towards the driver, which is nicely portrayed.
Talking about the powertrain features of this concept car, the production form will have 523 horsepower, an 80-kWh battery, 373 miles of range, sparking 0-100 km/h in about four seconds, and a top speed exceeding 200 km/h.
Finally, the wraps will come off tomorrow and we get to see the stylish and elegant piece from BMW which is also emission-free. As reported, the production will go on sale in 2021. It will be interesting to see if Malaysians get to have a chance on this.
