BMW Group Malaysia’s EV sales round-up for 2022, constitutes over 10% of total deliveries
KUALA LUMPUR: While there are still some days left until we enter 2023, BMW Group Malaysia has provided us with a rough estimate of its EV sales/deliveries. The automaker has revealed that electric vehicles will make up over 10% of total deliveries for 2022. Thus ensuring that both BMWi and MINI vehicles are well received by customers.
For the last two years, BMW Group Malaysia has been quick to introduce electric vehicles in its i and MINI lineup. For instance, in 2020, the automaker introduced the MINI Cooper SE, followed by its facelift a year later. In 2021, came the BMW iX and iX3. This year the brand welcomes the BMW i4 eDrive40 M Sport, and the performance-focused BMW i4 M50. In the near future, the brand will welcome the all-new i7 which is currently open for registration.
This is not the first time that the automaker’s EV lineup performed well in the Malaysian market. As of 2021, the brand delivered a total of 10,500 cars (9,340 - BMW & 940 - MINI), out of which 1,680 units belonged to EVs (fully electric & PHEV).
Also, in 2020, the brand’s total sales amounted to 11,061 units, including 8,903 units of BMW and 987 units of MINI. Electrified models constituted around 2,200 units for both MINI and BMW.
A big contribution to the surge in EV sales will go to the Malaysian government with its constant incentives to bring down the pricing, including exemption of import & export duties on CBU EVs until 31st Dec 2024. In addition, the BMW Group is also taking ground-level efforts like enhancing its local charging infrastructure and upskilling its EV workforce.
