BMW Group clocked new sales records in 2021
KUALA LUMPUR: Car brands like Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley achieved their best-ever yearly sales results in 2021. Now, joining the list is BMW. The German luxury auto group sold a total of 2,521,525 vehicles worldwide, including BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce vehicles. It represents an 8.4% year-on-year sales growth.

Mini sold a total of 302,144 units in 2021 with an annual sales growth of 3.3%.Looking at the individual numbers, BMW registered an all-time high sales of 2,213,795 units, 9.1% more than the previous year. Of these, 510,727 cars were sold during the last quarter alone. With these fantastic numbers, the brand now leads the global premium segment.
When it comes to EVs, the company sold 103,855 fully-electric vehicles during the year, which shows a YoY jump of 133.2%.
The brand’s M division also contributed significantly to the total sales. The segment successfully delivered 163,542 M performance cars in 2021 around the globe, which is 13.4% higher than the previous year.
Coming to MINI, the brand managed to sell 302,144 units in 2021 with an annual sales growth of 3.3%. More than 10% of sales was contributed by MINI Cooper Electric; it now becomes the MINI family’s highest-volume model.
Rolls Royce also saw amazing annual sales growth of 49% this year. It sold a total of 5,586 cars, which is the highest-ever annual sales in the marque's 117-year history. The best-selling Rolls Royce model in 2021 was none other than the Ghost.
2021 was also the best year ever for BMW Motorrad as it delivered 194,261 units (+14.8%) to customers. Just like previous years, the BMW 1250 GS remains the best-selling model in 2021, with 60,000 units sold.
“Despite supply bottlenecks and the continuing coronavirus pandemic: We achieved a strong sales performance in 2021, thanks to powerful operational performance and stellar product line-up. Our brands reported numerous all-time best sales results around the globe – spearheaded by the BMW brand, which is number one in the global premium segment,” said Pieter Nota, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales.
“With more than 100,000 fully-electric vehicles sold last year, ramping up electromobility was our clear focus,” Nota continued.
