BMW adds M35i in the X2 crossover lineup

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW has added a new member to its X2 family - the X2 M35i. The X2 was added to strengthen the brand’s crossover portfolio last year.

The existing variant of this powerful crossover has a twin-turbocharged, four-cylinder engine, which is capable of pumping out up to 231 PS of power along with a peak torque of 350 Nm. However, the addition of the in-house M tuner into the crossover family changes things a lot.

The M35i now becomes the flagship and the most powerful variant of the crossover. The vehicle is powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbocharged engine, which is available in several other vehicles from the manufacturer already. After E30 M3 from the 1980s, the X2 M35i is the next car from BMW to get M performance four-cylinder engine.

The engine can make a maximum of 306 PS of power with a peak torque of 450 Nm. The power is transmitted through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Moreover, the engine adorns BMW’s xDrive intelligent four-wheel drive system. The motor takes only 4.9 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph and can reach a top speed of 250 kmph. Sport and Comfort are the two different driving modes available.

Coming to the exterior, the BMW X2 M35i looks almost the same as the existing variants. Only a few additions have been made. The front bumper and rear-view mirrors are painted in Cerium Grey colour. A twin-exhaust setup is perfectly placed at the rear end with sportier and louder engine note. Moreover, the large brakes are now hidden behind the new 19-inch wheels. The addition of a rear spoiler and additional cooling intakes complete the changes. In the cabin, M Sport seats are available along with M Sport badges and different trim options.

The upgraded version also features M Sport Differential that enhances the traction of the front wheel. The crossover is equipped with an M Sport suspension system that is stiffer on the tuning.

The production phase of the BMW X2 M35i will start in November 2018 and we are expecting the car to hit the European market around the first quarter of the next year.
