Bermaz Auto secures XPeng EV distribution in Malaysia, expanding its EV range - Xpeng G6 to be the first to arrive?

KUALA LUMPUR:  Bermaz Auto Bhd has recently been named the official distributor for XPeng smart electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia, encompassing the sales of vehicles, spare parts, and the provision of after-sales services.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What brands are under Bermaz Auto?

    Mazda, Kia and now XPENG
  • Where they not Peugeot distributors too?

Yes, they were, but Stellantis took over on November 2023
  • Bermaz Auto Sdn Bhd

This designation comes from both Shenzhen Xiaopeng Motors Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Trading Co., Ltd., based in China.

Shenzhen XPeng and Guangzhou XPeng are responsible for the global distribution, sales of XPeng smart EVs, spare parts, merchandising, and after-sales support. These entities are part of the XPeng Motors family, a renowned manufacturer of XPeng smart EVs with its main office in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, and additional locations in Mountain View, California, USA, and Munich, Germany.

    XPENG EV MALAYSIA

XPeng Motors is recognized on international stock markets, with listings on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Bermaz Auto's recent designation as the distributor for XPeng smart electric vehicles (EVs) enriches its portfolio, further solidifying its position in the EV market alongside the Mazda MX-30, KIA EV6, and Kia Niro.

    KIA EV6 Malaysia

The KIA EV6, in particular, has enjoyed some notable success, while sales for the other two models have been more subdued. While it remains to be seen which XPeng EV will debut in Malaysia first, industry insiders speculate that the G6 SUV might lead the charge.

The XPeng G6 SUV is said to blend performance with efficiency. It can be had with a dual-motor setup providing all-wheel drive, with a combined power output of around 487 PS/ 660Nm , allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds.

For charging capabilities, it offers both standard AC charging and fast DC charging options. With fast charging, the G6 is able to recharge from 10% to 80% in just about 30 minutes using a 120 kW charger. The SUV can also be had with a large 87.5-kWh battery pack, offering a range of up to 700 km on a single charge under the CLTC cycle, which would make it competitive in today's EV market.

Among its standout features, the XPeng G6 could incorporate XPeng's advanced autonomous driving technology, XPILOT, which provides a comprehensive suite of driver assistance features for enhanced safety and convenience.

Additionally, a state-of-the-art infotainment system with a large touchscreen interface, voice command capabilities, and seamless smartphone integration could be expected. Other potential highlights include a panoramic sunroof, spacious cabin with premium materials, and innovative storage solutions to maximize utility and comfort for passengers.

    Mazda MX-30 Malaysia

This strategic move promises to enhance Bermaz Auto's offerings in the electric vehicle domain, already known for distributing KIA and Mazda in Malaysia.

Bermaz Auto recently ended its role as the distributor of Peugeot vehicles. This shift follows the dissolution of Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAA) today, which, since its inception three years ago, had been responsible for handling the distribution, sales, and after-sales service of Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia, in addition to serving as the authorized repairer for Citroen and DS brands.

    Stellantis Malaysia

This change is in line with Stellantis N.V.'s strategic decision, announced on November 22 last year, to directly manage its brands in the Malaysian market through its own national sales company, marking a new direction in the company's approach to brand management and service in Malaysia.
