Bentley is all for the sustainable fuel, proves the point at Pikes Peak International

KUALA LUMPUR: Electric or sustainable fuel? It’s a debate that has been going on for a while now, and Bentley seems to be rooting for the latter camp. The automaker proved its point once again with its latest achievement at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Bentley’s sustainable fuel-powered Bentley Continental GT3 Pikes Peak race car secured the second position in the Time Attack 1 class and fourth overall, leaving behind all the electric participants on the list.

Rhys Millen, the former King of the Mountain, was sitting behind the wheels of the Continental GT3 Pikes Peak race car. Despite the harsh weather conditions and technical difficulties, he managed to complete the climb in 6:36:281.

Talking about power, Bentley’s first-ever sustainability-focused machine churns out a maximum power of 750 hp, which is more than sufficient to beat the other entries, especially the EVs. In the race, the Continental GT3 was on its way to complete the run first, but it was put back by 6 seconds by a boost pressure issue. Thus, making way for the Porsche 911 GT2RS Clubsport to finish first.

On the achievement, Paul Williams, Bentley’s Director of Motorsport wing said, "We know we had the pace today both to win our class and to break the Time Attack 1 record. The weather sadly wasn’t with us though, with the shortened course meaning our assault on the record was never a possibility. While that’s a bitter pill to swallow, I’m proud to have entered such a strong renewably-powered race car – the fastest at the #event - and equally proud of the team that’s delivered this project. This is the first step on Bentley’s renewable fuel journey, and there will be many more opportunities to come. Perhaps we’ll even come back to Pikes Peak next year."
