Auto Expo 2020: New-gen Hyundai Creta debuts; not coming to Malaysia yet
KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Creta is one of the most popular 5-seater SUVs in the Indian automobile circuit. Hence, keeping that in mind, the automaker has debuted the second generation of the SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. The most notable change in the new generation is the addition of BS6 compliant engines, along with the revision of many other features. However, the same is not officially slated to come to the Malaysian shore.
The new generation Hyundai Creta has a good bit of revision on the aesthetic side. It now features the company’s latest cascading grille design over the one that the outgoing model has. Even the front face seems revised with boomerang-shaped LED DRLs and LED headlights. The rear end has been designed to have a sportier appearance. The displayed model stood on 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the 2020 Hyundai Creta will have three BS6-compliant engine that would be shared with the Kia Seltos. The engine options would include a 1.5-litre diesel and two petrol mills. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is naturally-aspirated while the 1.4-litre gets a turbocharger. The transmission options would also be diverse as the 1.5-litre petrol would get a CVT while the 1.4-litre turbocharged would have a 7-speed DCT. The diesel variant will get a standard 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Having said that, Hyundai has considered keeping the cabin features as a mystery as of now. Though we don’t know much about it yet, it is expected to feature two displays, one for the infotainment and the other for the instrument console. However, the company has confirmed that the new Creta will get an advanced connectivity feature in the form of BlueLink 1.5.
The 2020 Hyundai Creta will be officially launched in India in March this year and is expected to be in the Rs. 10 lakh (RM 58,000 approx) price range. However, Hyundai Malaysia is yet to bring the compact SUV here. The present lineup of Hyundai cars includes the Ioniq Hybrid, Santa Fe, Grand Starex, Elantra and Tucson, where the latter is a close resemblance of the Creta.
