Meet Aston Martin’s new hybrid supercar, the Valhalla
KUALA LUMPUR: Aston Martin unveiled its plans of making a sub-Valkyrie model in 2019 by showcasing the AM-RB 003 concept. Well, now after almost two and a half years, the British sports carmaker is here with its road-ready version that goes by the name “Valhalla.” The supercar gets a hybrid powertrain just like the prototype, however, there are certain significant changes to look for.
Under the metal skin, the Aston Martin Valhalla is equipped with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine mated to two electric motors. The V8 sends power to the supercar’s rear wheels, while the e-motors get the responsibility of powering both the front and rear wheels as per the drive mode chosen by the driver. The engine is mated to an all-new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It also gets an electronic limited-slip differential for better handling.
Talking about the output levels, the flat-plane crank V8 engine and electric motors together kick out a whopping power of 937 hp and a peak torque of 1000 Nm. According to the automaker, the engine and e-motors are able to run on different gears to generate optimal output levels, which propels the supercar from zero to 100 kmph in just 2.5 seconds.
As for top speed, the brand quoted a 330 kmph mark in hybrid and 130 kmph in electric-only mode. With these figures, the new Valhalla will be running the Nurburgring track to hit a sub-6:30 lap time.
Adding to the Aston Martin Valhalla performance are:
- Carbon-fiber tub for stiffness and less weight
- Formula One-style pushrod front suspension and rear multi-link suspension
- Multimatic variable spring rates
- Adaptive spool valve dampers
- Carbon ceramic 'Matrix' brakes
- Valhalla-specific Michelin tyres (20-inches in front and 21-inches at the rear)
So, what’s inside the new Aston Martin Valhalla? Well, the automaker has not revealed the interior design of the supercar. But, it does mention that the supercar’s cockpit will be much bigger than the Valkyrie. It will have a new HMI system with a touchscreen display and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Features like dual-zone automatic climate control, full LED Matrix headlights, cruise control, blind-spot monitoring will also be there.
About the Aston Martin Valhalla price and availability, the automaker did not make any statement yet.
