Aston Martin V12 Speedster gets a special DBR1 pack
KUALA LUMPUR: Do you remember the windshield-less, topless, ultra-rare Aston Martin supercar unveiled last year in March? Well, we remember that exotic dream called V12 Speedster very well, which has now received a new vintage-flavored package. Dubbed as the V12 Speedster DBR1, the special pack pays homage to the brand’s DBR1 racer car that took victories at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans and other high-profile races with drivers like Sir Stirling Moss and Carroll Shelby at the wheel.
The Aston Martin V12 Speedster is itself a limited-run V-12-powered car with a total production restricted to 88 units. The DBR1 specification will be optional for the buyers of these ultra rare and expensive models. But, what does the pack add to the V12 Speedster?
On the exterior, the DBR1 covers the racing beast in minty Aston Martin Racing Green paintwork teamed up with Clubsport White roundels. The grille at the front gets a Satin Silver finish while the 21-inch wheels on the sides flaunt satin black finishing and machined face. Included in the pack are racing helmets for driver as well as passenger, these are finished in the same green colourway.
Inside, the package adds Conker saddle leather on the sports seats, which is further complemented by Viridian Green textile and Caithness leather at other points. The cabin also gets glossy carbon fibre trimming and satin silver brushed aluminum switchgear.
However, the things under the bonnet remain the same as the standard V12 Speedster. This means there is a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 mill churning out a maximum power of 700 hp and a peak torque of 753 Nm. The setup has an eight-speed ZF-built automatic gearbox to send power to the rear wheels. According to the automaker’s estimates, the sports car can clock the 100 kmph mark in just 3.4 seconds before maxing at a top speed of 319 kmph.
Marek Reichman, Aston Martin chief creative officer said, “Emotion and exclusivity are at the heart of this car. A rare and exceptional Aston Martin, it has been engineered to offer a visceral driving experience that belies its elegant, artistic shape. Creating a bespoke specification that nods to the glory of the DBR1 has been a huge privilege for my team and I, and I very much look forward to seeing these cars being driven with the same enthusiasm that we have applied to their design.”
Orders for the 2021 Aston Martin V12 Speedster's DBR1 pack are now open, with first deliveries scheduled to start from mid-2021. However, the automaker has not yet announced its price, but we can expect a small premium over the V12 Speedster's price tag of £765,000 (RM 4,379,967).
