Aston Martin gets ready for new innings in Formula One racing

KUALA LUMPUR: In recent years, Aston Martin has relished great success in sportscar racing, spotlighted by a number of wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. But now it’s been more than six decades since the name of the British marque was last heard of in Formula One racing. Well, after this long absence, it’s time for a comeback to top-flight single-seater competition.

The company has announced that it would compete in the Formula One Championship racing in 2021 with a new team, which will make its debut in Australia, on March 21, 2021. The Aston Martin Formula One Team will have two drivers - Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll. 

Sebastian Vettel has been Formula 1 World Champion four times, while Lance Stroll is a Grand Prix podium finisher. He is the son of Lawrence Stroll, the Racing Point F1 team owner that was renamed as Aston Martin Formula One Team after the Canadian billionaire acquired a major stake in the brand.

The luxury carmaker has officially kicked off its exciting Formula One journey with the launch of a new logo, and a new livery teaser, for the 2021 season as the rebranded team gets ready for the ground running. The official teaser video showed a mix of colors that are expected to include British Racing Green, Sterling Green, and Neon Yellow, which means a familiar colour scheme.

“We’ve had almost a year of preparation to reach this point and we’re really looking forward to seeing the reaction when we finally unveil our new identity as the Aston Martin Formula One Team. Representing such an iconic brand is a huge privilege for every member of the team. We’ve earned a well-deserved reputation for punching above our weight, so we’re confident we can do the Aston Martin name proud right from the get-go,” said team principal Otmar Szafnauer.

The brand has also confirmed that it will officially launch its new racing car and livery for 2021 next month, although an exact date is yet to be announced.
