Aston Martin first-ever SUV, DBX might get V12; CEO hints
KUALA LUMPUR: Aston Martin has launched the 2021 DBX at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show, which is now happening in California from November 22. The car comes with Mercedes-AMG derived 4.0-litre V8 engine, which delivers a maximum power of 550 hp and a peak torque of 700 Nm. Moreover, at the preview event, the carmaker has also announced that the car might get more powerful V12 engine in future.
In a question-answer session, Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO has replied with an indication on this powerful engine fit. He has mentioned in a statement that models like DB11 AMR and DBS Superleggera are powered by the turbocharged V12 5.2-litre engine and DBX could also fit the motor.
However, he has also declared there is no confirmation at this moment that a V12-powered DBX will arrive. He added “We'll probably do other engine derivatives, we'll do other spec derivatives. As you do with any lifecycle management, and, in the same way, as we do specials off of our DB11 platform, we may well do specials off this platform.”
If Aston considers adding V12 engine in DBX, hopefully, it will come under ARM trim, which is reserved for some exclusive Aston models. Palmer has also specified, "We're committed to doing an AMR in every one of our range, so that would be an obvious candidate."
Pertaining to the car, DBX is Aston Martin’s first-ever SUV, which is based on a new bonded aluminium platform. The platform is specially developed to furnish SUV. The production will start next year at Aston’s new plant in St. Athan,
Wales. Deliveries will begin in the second half in 2020 and the first 500 buyers will have a special “1913 package” that will come with a build book signed by the CEO, special badges inside and outside and an invitation to a gathering at the nearest Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.
