Another Takata recall : Inflators recalled in 5.1 Million Vehicles
Kuala Lumpur. Takata has initiated yet another recall. Takata Motors has recalled air bag inflators in over 5.1 million vehicles from the U.S., due to a defect in the inflator that could prove fatal for the driver as well as the passenger. The defect in the Takata airbag inflator has caused several damages which mainly include the death of the driver. Many car brands have faced the same flaw with airbags which include Ford Motor Co., AC's Mercedes-Benz, Mazda Motor Corp., Audi, Volkswagen, Sprinter Van brands, Saab AB, BMW 'AG' and Honda. The majority of vehicles that are recalled by Takata Corp. are the older models while the latest models might be recalled later.
The Toyota Motor Corp. was also in the queue of this recall in the year 2015. Due to this, a stats of 10 deaths have been recorded globally and the reason being faulty airbags on the driver's side. As confirmed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Japanese company's recall is about to take place.
The carmakers are calling back more models for rechecking the inflator issues in order to be assured of the defects which require correction. The most recent recall was the Italian sports car Ferrari, which faced the same concern of faulty airbags. According to a study done by the Takata Motor Corp., it was revealed that the interference of moisture in the inflators’ propellant raised the danger of ruptured airbags. But among the Honda vehicles, the engineers are still not sure about the root cause of this flaw which is yet to be resolved. Honda, as of now, has planned to cease the use of Takata air-bag, until this scandal gets resolved.
The companies that have been facing this issue might supply a substitute to their customers for the disadvantage caused till now. Some companies are also providing a free replacement facility of the defective part at zero cost, as the deaths caused due to the same have been a major concern among all the carmakers.
