All-new Toyota GR 86 Malaysian launch confirmed
KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, the authorised distributor of Toyota vehicles in Malaysia recently confirmed that the company will be introducing several GR and GR-Sport models soon, and one of them is the all-new 2022 Toyota GR 86.

There is also a new 7-inch TFT screen. Its opening animation sequence is inspired by the piston movements of the GR 86’s horizontally opposed engine, and as claimed by Toyota, fosters a sense of excitement even before the drive begins.
Powering the all-new Toyota GR 86 is a new lightweight naturally aspirated 2.4-litre boxer petrol engine producing 235 PS and 250 Nm of maximum torque, enabling the car to achieve 0–100km/h acceleration in 6.3 seconds which is 1.1 seconds quicker than the current model.
According to UMWT, the introduction of new models like the GR 86 here will be accompanied by numerous activities which will enable owners to get the most from the experience of owning a GR vehicle.
It is said that this will be achieved through GR driving clinics, experiences, and other activities which will equip the owners with the necessary experience and skills to be able to safely take full advantage of their vehicle’s potential.
That being said, 2022 looks like it will be an exciting year for Gazoo Racing customers, enthusiasts, and potential owners who seek performance-engineered models from Toyota.
Current models that are available in Malaysia include the GR Supra, the GR Yaris and the GRSport Vios.
The GR-Sport Vios which is built at UMW Toyota Motor’s state-of-the-art plant in Bukit Raja as a tribute to the Vios Challenge racing cars, is also the very first ASEAN-manufactured vehicle to wear the GR badge.
