All-new third-gen Isuzu D-Max unveiled in Thailand
KUALA LUMPUR: Isuzu has introduced a newer version of its 2002-born popular pickup truck after a long span of eight years. The all-new third-gen D-Max has been updated on all the fronts, including interior, exterior, and mechanics under the hood. As for now, 2020 Isuzu D-Max will be available in the Thai market in three variants - double cab, extended cab and, single cab from October 19th onwards.
2020 Isuzu D-Max is based on the brand’s own Dynamic Drive Platform utilizing body-on-frame construction. The frame is lighter, stiffer, and safer than its predecessors even though the cross-section is extended. To reduce noise and vibration levels and improve driving stability, the standard body mount is replaced with a shear mount.
Speaking of the exterior, Isuzu has made the look of the car more aggressive compared to the 2019 Isuzu D-Max facelifted version introduced in Malaysia in September this year. In the range-topping variant, a significant portion of the front-end is filled up with the grille while the rest of the space has slim headlights with bi-LED technology, U-shaped LED DRLs, indicators, and fog-lights. Other variants feature a smaller grille and a more conventional bumper at the front-end. At the rear, there are twin-barrel tail lights that come with clear lenses and LED edge lighting. 2020 D-Max will ride on 18-inch alloy wheels.
Measurement-wise, as for the double cab variants, the pick-up truck measures 5,265 mm in length, which is 30 mm shorter than the previous model. In width and height, the all-new third-gen Isuzu comes with 1,870 mm and 1,790 mm measurements, respectively. The wheelbase is now 3,125 mm, which is 30 mm longer than the outgoing model.
Moving to its interior, it gets the maximum changes. The upholstery has received an improved quality with embossed and textured materials. The centre console is taller and broader than before. In terms of safety, it features blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross traffic alert, seat belt reminder, up to six airbags, and stability control.
On the mechanical front, the new Isuzu D-Max is claimed to deliver better fuel efficiency. The all-new third-gen Isuzu D-Max gets 1.9-litre and 3.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engines under the hood. The 1.9-litre RZ4E-TC engine makes 150 PS power at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm torque, and the larger mill, the 4JJ3-TCX 3.0-litre churns out 190 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque.
Prices of the variants will range between 510,000 baht (RM 70,200) to 1,164,000 baht (RM 160,300). As for now, there is no news when it will be launched in the Malaysian market.
