All-new Lexus GX premiered globally; check the details

KUALA LUMPUR: Keeping up its promise to reveal the 2024 Lexus GX in the second week of June, the automaker has finally showcased its new car globally. And we can’t be more excited.

The all-new Lexus GX was revealed by the automaker on June 8th in Texas and is set to arrive in other international markets by the end of 2023.

Positioned between the Lexus LX and Lexus RX, the GX primarily targets the North American market. This capable luxury off-road vehicle sits on a body-on-frame structure and has sold over 540,000 units globally as of March 2023.

Lexus GX Chief Engineer, Koji Tsukasaki, on the premier of the all-new GX, said that the off-roader is essentially like a diver’s watch in the sense that “even if its full functionality isn’t always needed, it is great to know it is always capable.”

He added, “And the all-new GX’s design certainly embodies that highly capable image. With its pulled-back front pillars, flared wings, and low belt line, the all-new GX’s design has authentic off-roader proportions. According to Lexus, the overall effect that they wanted to achieve was “the look of a car that has been cut from a solid block of metal.”

Reimagines as “The Premium Off-Roader” and designed to elevate the customer experience, the car showcases “thick, squared-off shape of the bonnet projects toughness, but the bonnet’s low-set center section ensures the driver has a good view of front corners, so they can maneuver the vehicle with confidence. With a shorter front overhang, the GX has a greater approach angle for tackling steeper slopes.”

All-new 2024 Lexus GX: Key details

Engine: Powering the 2024 GX is a 3.5-liter V6 turbo engine making a maximum power of 354 hp along with a peak tour of 650 Nm. Which compared to the ongoing model is a considerable hike (296 hp and 438 Nm).

Transmission: The ongoing 6-speed automatic transmission is replaced by a new 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission unit.

Design: The off-roader showcases a tough exterior profile and is blessed with a squared-off bonnet with a low set center and shorter overhangs.

Cabin: Enter the door and you’ll be welcomed by a modern yet calm interior which at the same time follows a human centered approach. Taking advantage of the Tazuna Concept, all the controls and information sources are positioned just a small distance away from the users hands or eyes. For instance, its horizontal instrument panel and lower belt line offers an all-around view of the vehicle's position on the road. The setup also includes a 14-inch touchscreen display giving clear and easy access to several functions.

Lexus GX Overtrail

In addition to the 2024 GX, Lexus also showcased the Lexus GX Overtrail, a halo version of the car. The said car came along with following inclusions -

• A 20 mm wider tread
• Black wheel arch moldings
• Side under protection
• Aluminum underguards
• Raised bumper corners (optional)
