All-new 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata introduced; check full details

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda’s favorite roadster, the MX-5 Miata, has been updated for the model year 2023. The car is now available in a new striking tone and is accompanied by a slight price hike.

Price

The updated MX-5 Miata is introduced by Mazda North America Operations with its price ranging from US$28,050 to US$38,550 (approx RM 127,775 - RM 175,549), depending on the variants.

Variants

The new Mazda MX-5 Miata will be offered in several variant options including, Sport, Club, and Grand Touring.

Hard-top convertible body type is also available, however, it is only offered with the Club and Grand Touring variants.

Powertrain

Powering the all-new MX-5 Miata is a Skyactiv-G 2.0-litre four-cylinder front engine with a rear-wheel drive layout. The mill generates a maximum power of 181 hp at 7,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 205 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

The drive is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox in the Sport and Club trims, the Grand Touring, on the other hand, is offered with either a manual transmission quick-shift 6-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Braking and handling

The new MX-5 Miata continues to feature the brand’s well-appreciated Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) brake vectoring system which offers improved precision and confidence.

Features

As mentioned, the base MX-5 Miata gets a high-revving 2.0L mill and KPC system.

The mid-spec Club trim which is a bit expensive comes with LED DRLs, Bilstein dampers, a limited-slip differential, a front shock tower brace, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The range-topping Grand Touring model, over and above the mechanical upgrades enjoyed by the Club variant, benefits from a host of tech improvements. For instance, automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, traffic sign recognition, automatic climate control, 17-inch gunmetal wheels, and rain-sensing wipers.

Colour options 

The new MX-5 Miata is now offered in a new exterior paint colour called Zircon Sand.

In Malaysia, the Mazda lineup only includes the MX-5 RF model which retails from RM 272,000 - 274,000, the on-the-road without insurance.
