All-new 2023 Maserati Grecale GT launched in Malaysia; check full details

KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Italia, the official distributor of Maserati cars in Malaysia, has finally launched the new Grecale GT in the country. The car was first previewed by the distributor last June and since then we have been waiting for its arrival.

Positioned below the larger Levante, Grecale GT gets its name from a strong north-east wind of the Mediterranean, called Gregale.

In comparison, the Maserati Grecale GT is larger in every sense than its German competitor, the Porsche Macan.

Exterior design

Built on the Giorgio platform, the Grecale GT seems clearly inspired by the MC20 with several design clues remaining in the former. The key design features include

• A protruding nose
• Wide grille with chrome vertical bars (mid & top-spec with black finish)
• A sloping roofline
• Recessed door handles
• Signature triple vents on the front fenders
• Trident emblems on the C-pillars
• Slim, two-piece taillights
• Lower apron with diffuser element flanked by exhaust outlets

Interior Features

As expected the new Maserati Grecale is a welcoming car with several high-tech features all aimed to make the driver’s and passenger's time in the car comfortable and super relaxed. A few of the key features on the inside include -

• A near-symmetrical dashboard that clearly partitions the driver & front passenger portion
• A digital clock with functions like a G-force meter, compass, and in-built visual response capability
• A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
• A 12.3-inch central touchscreen above an 8.8-inch touchscreen (linked to Maserati Intelligent Assistant)
• A wide array of connectivity options - Bluetooth; Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well as the Maserati Connect telematics system
• Rear touchscreen (to adjust 3-zone climate control)
• Sonus faber developed sound system with 14- and 21-speaker

Powertrain configuration

Globally, Maserati offers the Grecale with three engine options. Malaysia, however, gets the car in GT guise which comes equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cyl turbo petrol engine generating a maximum power output of 300 PS at 5,750 rpm along with a peak torque of 450 Nm from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm.

The setup includes a 48V mild hybrid system with a belt starter generator, an eBooster, a battery, and a DC/DC converter.

The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drivetrain. The setup allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds and attain a top speed of 240 kmph.

Braking & handling

Brakes: Brake discs measuring 350 mm at the front with four-piston calipers and 330 mm at the rear with single-piston calipers

Suspension: Front double wishbones and a rear multi-link setup with passive dampers. As an option is available an adaptive Skyhook system and air suspension

Drive modes: Comfort, GT, Sport, and Off-Road

Other features: Vehicle Dynamic Control Module (VDCM) is also part of the kit. An evolution of the MC20’s Chassis Domain Control Module, it controls all vehicle dynamics with precise timing and targets
