As mentioned earlier, the new Ranger Raptor is nothing but a regular Ranger with several add-ons and so comes the additional price. While the Ranger price ranges from RM 108,888 - RM 168,888, the Ranger Raptor retails for RM 259,888 on the road without insurance. Included in the latter price tag is a 5-year/160,000 manufacturer’s warranty, whichever comes first.
The automaker’s PremiumCare further offers a range of coverages including a 2-year extended warranty.
The Ranger Raptor is a massive pickup with measurements reading - 5,381 mm in length, 2,028 mm in width, and 1,922 mm in height. Its wheelbase and ground clearance figures read 3,270 mm and 272 mm respectively. Making it more off-roading friendly than the regular mode is its 32-degree approach angle and up to 27-degree departure angle. Not to forget the 800 mm water wading depth.
Power is one of the key highlights of the new Ranger Raptor pickup and the unit you see above is a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine. The unit generates a maximum power of 397 PS at 5,650 rpm along with a peak torque of 583 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Thus making the Raptor the most powerful production Ranger ever. The drive is sent to the wheels via a revised 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission unit wherein each gear is programmed with its own boost profile.
One interesting fact about the powerplant is its strong building material, compacted graphite iron, which is 75% stronger than traditional iron castings.
The Raptor is equipped with not one but seven drive modes. Included in the list are Normal, Sport, Sand, Slippery, Mud & Ruts, Rock, and Baja modes, the Raptor comes with a go-anywhere attitude. The Baja Mode activates an anti-lag system which keeps the turbochargers spinning for up to three seconds after the throttle is lifted off. Thus allowing for a more responsive power delivery when the accelerator is pushed back again.
The pickup truck gets an active valve exhaust system which features an X-pipe and electronically-controlled valves to help the V6 engine deliver higher exhaust notes. The vehicle offers four exhaust modes namely Quite, Sport, Normal, and Baja, which can be selected via dedicated steering control.
The new Ranger Raptor comes equipped with an all-new suspension system. Developed by Ford Performance the 2.5-inch Fox Live Valve Shocks adapts in real-time, offering cutting-edge control and position-sensitive damping capability. The absorbers are filled with Teflon-infused oil that helps reduce friction by 50% more than before.
Ford’s new pickup features advanced front & rear differentials which are combined with an advanced automatic four-wheel drive system.
The Raptor sure is a powerful car with exterior features to support its potent claim. One of that is the big F-O-R-D lettering that only adds to the pickup’s muscular design.
Another attractive bit on the outside is the vehicle’s C-Clamp matrix LED headlamps which also optimize battery power by generating less heat. These units feature glare-free high beams, predictive curve lights, and auto dynamic levelling which improve the forward visibility with glaring oncoming traffic. The lighting units can even adjust the intensity of the beam depending on the speed of the vehicle.
The front fenders and front hood get functional air vents that do a good job of keeping the engine cool.
The Ranger Raptor moves on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 285/70 R17 BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tyres.
The side profile showcases an outer rear-view mirror fitted not only with turn indicators but cameras and puddle lamps. It also gets Raptor Scheme side steps and a Ford Performance scuff plate.
The pickup comes standard with a Bedliner with six cargo box hook points, a 12V socket, and a 230V three-pin socket.
At the rear, the new pickup features new LED taillights with an integrated blindspot radar along with rear steps bumper, easy lift tailgate, and recovery hooks.
The Raptor comes fitted with performance seats front and back inspired by that of a jet fighter and offers superior support and comfort. The bucket seats showcase splashes of Raptor’s signature Code Orange. Both the driver and front passenger seats come with 10-way power adjustable and manually adjustable features respectively.
No more analogue dashboards, as the Raptor gets a high-resolution 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster. It offers real-time status reports in one organized interface.
Every journey is elevated in Ranger Raptor with Bang & Olufsen Sound System which offers crisp and powerful audio.
The Raptor features a massive 12-inch infotainment system with Ford’s SYNC 4A system. It will help the passengers and driver stay connected to all the digital lifestyle essentials, thanks to Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.
Keeping the atmosphere pleasing all the time inside is the Raptor’s electronic dual-zone climate control system along with rear air-con vents.
The passengers get extra storage space on the entire console thanks to the new e-shifter, an electric parking brake that helps free up the space. In addition to the free space, the e-shifter with the auto-parking feature allows the Raptor to steer, accelerate, reverse, and brake on its own with just the driver holding on to the auto-park button.
Apart from being a performance-ridden pickup, the Ranger Raptor is a super safe vehicle thanks to advanced features including adaptive cruise control, emergency stop signal, lane departure warning & assist, ABS, blind spot detection system, high beam assist, rear cross-traffic alert, manual speed limiter, multi-collision brake, active park assist 2.0, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a 360-degree camera.
The active and passive safety specs include - ABS with BA & EBD, electronic stability control, traction stability system, hill descent control, hill launch assist, rollover mitigation, adaptive load control, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, brake override system, front & rear parking sensors, seven airbags (driver & front passenger, sides, curtains, & driver's knee), driver & front passenger seat belt reminder, ISOFIX.
