All-new 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost launched in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: The second-gen Ghost is finally here in Malaysia. The car made its debut last September and it finally got launched yesterday by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Kuala Lumpur. In Malaysia, the luxury sedan is offered in two trim options - the standard-wheelbase and extended-wheelbase model. While the former is priced at RM 1.45 million, the latter retails for RM 1.65 million. Included in the price is a 4-year/unlimited-mileage warranty with optional two-, three-, or five-year ownership packages.
Both the 2021 Ghost variants are powered by a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12 petrol powerplant that churns out a maximum power of 571 PS and a peak torque of 850 Nm. The engine is coupled to a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels (AWD standard). With so much power in hand, the sedan can touch the 100 kmph mark in just 4.8 seconds.
Before discussing the new Ghost's design and dimensions, let's first find out what underpinned this luxury ride. Like the Cullinan SUV, the new Ghost underpins the brand's Architecture of Luxury. Thanks to the sedan's self-leveling air-suspension system, the chassis offers the brand's famed 'magic carpet ride'. Further aiding the cause is another function that uses a stereo camera system to look up the road ahead, thus preparing the air suspension to soak up the bumps.
On the dimensions front, the standard-wheelbase model measures 5,545 mm in length. The extended-wheelbase version is a good 170 mm longer at 5,715 mm and all the additional 'mm' going into creating additional space for the rear passenger.
The new Ghost benefits from an evolutionary design approach, it follows the automaker's 'Post Opulence' philosophy that is both distinctive and minimalistic. Apart from the umbrellas in the doors and ubiquitous Spirit of Ecstasy every bit is new. A few highlights being - illuminated Phantom grille, rectangular headlamps with laser technology, near-square taillights, and C-shaped LED DRLs.
The inside is a treat as well, the new Ghost like all the previous and ongoing Rolls-Royce offers a serene view. The 'Formula for Serenity' provides more than 100 kg of acoustic insulation that is applied to the roof, door, inside the tyres, between the double-glazed windows, and within all of the car's body. Even some components tuned to share a common resonant frequency.
The cabin feature list includes -
- 18-channel, 18-speaker, 1,300-watt audiophile-grade sound system with exciter speakers
- Starlight Headliner with shooting star effect
- New illuminated Ghost fascia on the dashboard with more than 90,000 laser-etched dots
- Finest leathers, metals, and woods applied to the cabin
- Champagne fridge between the rear seats with two settings - 11 degrees for vintage champagnes and 6 degrees for non-vintage ones
- BMW's Drive system with twin instrument and infotainment screens
- WiFi hotspot
- 60-degree camera system
- 7x3 head-up display
- Parking assist
On the safety and security side, the new Ghost benefits from the usual driver assistance systems. Including adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, collision warning, vision assist with day- and night time wildlife and pedestrian warning.
Rolls-Royce has even added a new Micro-Environment Purification System (MEPS) that not only keeps the air quality under check but also detects airborne contaminants and switches automatically to recirculation mode.
