All-new 2021 Renault Kiger to debut on Jan 28

KUALA LUMPUR: Big news coming from Renault, the automaker is all set to introduce its first car for the year - the production-spec Kiger compact SUV. Once on the dealership floor, it will compete with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Kia Sonet, Toyota Urban Cruiser, and more.

The 2021 Kiger design language will remain 80 percent similar to the Kiger concept shown by the automaker a while back. So, we expect to see the production version with the same split headlights with LED daytime running lights placed above the main light unit, a winged front grille with horizontal slats, and C-shaped tail lamps. It will however miss out on elements like over-exaggerated bumpers, massive 19-inch wheels, and the double central exhaust system.

The concept car was seen finished in two mesmerizing hues ‘California Dream’ and Aurora Borealis. Though we wouldn’t mind paying a bit extra for them, it's highly unlikely for Renault to offer these colour options with production-spec Kiger.

On the inside, we are hoping the Kiger crossover to borrow a few features from the seven-seater Triber. For instance, Triber-like dual glove box, digital instrument panel, switchgear, and steering wheel. Also, the range-topping Kiger version is expected to benefit from comfort & convenience features like a free-standing touch infotainment display, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel with audio and phone controls, and keyless entry and go.

Under the hood configuration of Renault Kiger consists of two powerplant options - an entry-level 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol mill pumping 72 hp of power and a 100 hp generating 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol unit. On the transmission front, it’ll get manual and CVT automatic options.

That’s all the information we have at the moment on Renault’s upcoming compact SUV. More details will be revealed next week with Kiger’s debut.
