A new Toyota EV coming soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, Toyota will soon be adding a new EV to its already elaborate lineup. It's called the X Prologue and is scheduled to make a debut on March 17, 2021.
The image you see above is the official teaser image of the Toyota X Prologue. It doesn't show much apart from the stacked LED headlight units with an arc of running light. Also, visible distinctly is a sharp crease running from one lighting unit to another. It definitely gives the car a modern appeal.
Toyota has not disclosed much about its upcoming EV, but from an earlier teaser of the X Prologue, it is confirmed that this one will be a midsize crossover. And underpinning it will be the automaker's E-TGNA platform.
Toyota X Prologue EV will be initially sold in Europe, however, in the future, when it will be manufactured in Japan at an EV-only plant, it might be available there as well.
Toyota is building the midsize EV crossover along with Subaru.
Toyota E-TGNA platform
In the future, Toyota plans to support several of its models with the E-TGNA architecture. The list includes minivan, compact crossover, sedan, a midsize crossover, and larger crossover. All these will be brand new models, completely unrelated to Toyota's existing models.
It will support distinct layouts, including all-, front, and rear-wheel-drive. In addition, it can take in a variety of electric motor outputs and battery packs.
The cars based on the E-TGNA platform will look very different, mostly futuristic with subtle curves, and tiny headlights.
