5 Reasons why the Volkswagen ID.4 is worth the wait

The electric vehicle market in Malaysia is set to grow at a faster pace with several electric cars ready to hit the market soon. Among these upcoming EVs, one is the Volkswagen ID.4, which will go up against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 in the local market.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the range of the Volkswagen ID.4?

Equipped with a 77-kWh battery pack, the Volkswagen ID.4 offers a WLTP-claimed range of 519 km on a single charge.
  • How safe is the Volkswagen ID.4?

The Volkswagen ID.4 is touted as an extremely safe EV as it is kitted with a bucketload of advanced safety systems. The EV aced the IIHS and Euro NCAP crash tests with flying colours.
  • During the Volkswagen Fest, 2022 held last month, the official distributor of Volkswagen cars in Malaysia, VPCM (Volkswagen Passengers Cars Malaysia) previewed the ID.4. Since then, the automaker has been accepting the customers’ interests in favour of the electric SUV via an ROI page on the official website. Well, the arrival timeline of the EV is yet to be announced, which means the wait could be long.

In today’s story, we will be discussing all those reasons that make the Volkswagen ID.4 worth the wait. So, let’s get started.

    Healthy range

The ID.4 variant previewed in the local market is the Pro Performance. It will come equipped with an RWD electric motor churning out 204 PS of maximum power and 310 Nm of peak torque. The motor is teamed up with a 77-kWh battery pack, enabling the EV to cruise up to 519 km (on the WLTP cycle) on a single charge. The driving range is quite healthy and makes the EV a suitable car to take on road trips.

For sake of comparison, the range-topping Ioniq 5 powered by a 72.6-kWh battery gives away a max range of 430 km, while the EV6’s 77.4-kWh lithium-ion battery runs for 510 km on a single charge.

    Comfortable driving experience

The upcoming Volkswagen ID.4 promises a comfortable driving experience thanks to its soft suspension and impressive turning radius. The rear-wheel-drive EV offers a turning radius of just 10.2 metres leading to outstanding manoeuvrability. It is even lighter than the Volkswagen Golf and the Mini Cooper SE. The agile turning coupled with the expansive front windshield, provide excellent visibility making the EV a comfortable and easy-to-drive car.

Another feature adding to the pleasant driving experience is the moving driver cluster, which actually shifts with the turning of the steering wheel and remains within the driver's line of sight.

    Extremely safe

Touted as an extremely safe EV, the Volkswagen ID.4 comes kitted with a huge pack of safety systems like the Proactive passenger protection system with Front assist, Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Emergency Assist, Side Assist with lane change system, Park Assist plus with memory feature, Dynamic Light Assist, Dynamic Road Sign Display, Dynamic Chassis Control, Adaptive Cruise Control with stop & go, Area view 360° camera, Auto Emergency Braking Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring, blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, six airbags, electronic stability control, anti-slip regulation, and more.

The ID.4 aced the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety safety crash tests with the IIHS Top SafetyPick+ honour and also earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the Euro NCAP.

    Intuitive Climate Control System

The Volkswagen ID.4 will come kitted with a 3-zone Air Care Climatronic. This advanced air-conditioning unit comes with an allergy filter. It has a Smart Climate menu that allows the passengers to activate specific individual functions not only at the tap of a button but also using voice control. The menu includes functions like ‘Defog windows’, ‘Warm my hands', ‘Cool my feet,' and so on.

    Spacious cabin

Although the EV falls into the category of compact SUVs, it offers a rather roomy cabin thanks to the MEB platform which combines the elongated wheelbase with short overhangs. The cabin features enough space for heads and shoulders along with an impressive 37.6 inches (955 mm) of legroom in the rear letting the tall occupants enjoy every short and long haul. When it comes to boot capacity, the ID.4 puts forward a spacious compartment that can accommodate 543 litres of luggage with rear seats up. This can be expandable up to 1,655 litres with seats folded.

So, those were the five reasons making the Volkswagen ID.4 worth waiting for. What do you think of this upcoming German EV? Will you prefer it over the EV6 and Ioniq 5? Let us know in the comments.
