26th Toyota Classics raises RM327K charity to protect the environment
Kuala Lumpur: UMW Toyota Motor has always played a pivotal role as a responsible corporate citizen in the country, the company has proved it yet again by raising RM 327,000 bolstering the efforts made to protect the environment.
The 26th Toyota Classics held recently at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), which was an annual CSR event fused with beautiful music and philanthropy. The event was very well received by the audience who enjoyed the harmonious performance by The Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre, a multi-award winning orchestra from Hungary.
The major chunk of this charity was received by the Borneo Conservation Trust who received a Toyota Fortuner while Malaysian Nature Society and World Wide Fund for Nature both received RM 77,000. His Royal Highness Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj, Sultan of Selangor was the royal guest of honour. His highness handed pseudo cheques to the NGOs at the concert on behalf of UMW Toyota Motor.
Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, said, “ We would like to extend our gratitude to the various contributors from corporate companies as well as individual donors who have donated generously and towards this cause as we continue to fuse beautiful music and corporate social responsibility.”
“We have seen the good works done by these NGOs in preserving and conserving wildlife in Malaysia. Their unrelenting effort and commitment have impressed us, and we are happy to support their noble causes by channelling the proceeds from this year’s Toyota Classics so that they can continue protecting Malaysia’s wildlife,” said Datuk Ismet Suki, President of UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd.
Toyota has been an active member of charity events all across the country in the recent years. By far Toyota Classics concerts in Malaysia have raised RM7.5 million to benefit 60 charitable and non-governmental organisations. Toyota Classics came into inception in the year 1990 and since then it has held over 184 sell-out classical concerts in Asia raising almost USD 7 million (RM26 million) in the past 25 years.
