2024 Toyota C-HR revealed with bolder design, more tech and electrified drivetrains
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota has pulled the wraps off the all-new C-HR in Europe, which looks almost the same as the C-HR Prologue concept car revealed last year. The new C-HR sports a bolder exterior and contemporary interior styling with a focus on sustainability and personalised user experience.

Toyota Europe has plans to introduce two special Premiere Edition models of the SUV, namely the GR Sport Premiere Edition and a High Premiere Edition at launch.Designed exclusively for European customers, the new C-HR has a "super coupe" profile with a hammerhead face kitted with C-shaped headlamps, short overhangs, and large wheels (up to 20-inch). The SUV has diamond-cut character lines all along its sides that add to the texture.
The design tweaks like a new front bumper, flush door handles, and rear spoiler lead to an improvement in the aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle.
The up-market cabin of the new Toyota C-HR is equipped with premium and eco-friendly materials. The automaker used recycled plastics in more than 100 different parts, including new fabric for the seat upholstery made from recycled PET bottles and new animal-free material for wrapping the steering wheel cover.
The updated driver-focused dashboard sports a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display powered by the latest Toyota Smart Connect software. The latter can be personalised in many ways.
Also, parts of the kit are - a head-up display, a digital key system, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, a wireless smartphone Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity, a MyT smartphone app for remote control of vehicle functions, and a unique-in-class automatic parking function.
The SUV also gets the latest Toyota Safety Sense pack of active safety and driver assistance features. These include
- New Acceleration Suppression that slows any sudden use of the throttle when it detects a potential collision
- New Proactive Driving Assist providing smooth deceleration
- Steering Assist for a smooth and stable turn
- Lane Change Assist with Front Cross Traffic Alert
- Driver Monitor Camera
- Automatic High-Beam System with camera control
- Hands-free driving to automatically follow the vehicle ahead in a stop-start traffic jam
Toyota offers the new C-HR in four electrified drivetrains, comprising -
- A 98 PS/142 Nm 1.8-litre NA four-cylinder petrol engine tied with a 95 PS/185 Nm electric motor combinedly producing 140 PS
- A 2.0-litre NA four-cyl unit making 152 PS and 190 Nm of torque, mated to an electric motor with 113 PS and 206 Nm for a combined system output of 197 PS
- The 2.0-litre HEV version paired with an AWD-i option
- A 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid system generating 223 PS. The automaker touted it as the best-in-class system as it promises an “effortless all-electric EV driving for daily use and highly efficient hybrid electric performance for long trips”
