KUALA LUMPUR: At the "E-Lion Day 2024" event in January, Peugeot unveiled its strategy to broaden its electric vehicle range by introducing two new EV models: the e-408 and the e-5008. While the e-408 is still under wraps, we have the e-5008 right in front of us.

Dimensions
The Peugeot e-5008 is an enlarged version of the new e-3008 introduced in 2023. It measures 4790 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1690 mm in height and spans a generous wheelbase of 2898 mm.
The EV offers a storage space of 257 litres, which is sufficient for keeping essentials during short urban journeys with a full load of seven passengers. However, by switching to the five-seat arrangement, the luggage capacity expands to 746 litres. Need even more room? Fold down the second row to access a spacious 1,811 litres of storage.
Drivetrain, range, and charging
The Peugeot e-5008 comes in two versions, Allure and GT, with three all-electric powertrain options. It includes a standard single-motor setup tuned to generate 210 hp and 345 Nm, a long-range single-motor version making 230 hp and 345 Nm, and a dual-motor all-wheel drive trim that delivers 320 hp.
The standard single motor comes paired with a 73kWh battery pack, yielding a WLTP-claimed driving range of 502 km. The long-range single-motor variant, on the other hand, comes paired with a bigger, 98kWh battery, which offers 660 km of driving between charges. The dual-motor model comes mated to a 73kWh unit, claimed to provide 500 km of range.
The new Peugeot e-5008 comes with an 11 kW three-phase AC charger as standard, with an optional upgrade to a 22 kW three-phase AC charger. It supports DC charging at up to 160 kW, allowing it to charge from 20 to 80% in 30 minutes or add 100 km of range in just 10 minutes.
Besides the fully-electric setup, the e-5008 also comes in two electrified powertrains. The first is a 48V mild hybrid with a 136-hp petrol engine, an electric motor, a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and an electric motor. The second option is a plug-in hybrid with a 150-hp engine and a 123-hp electric motor, resulting in a system output of 195 hp and over 80 km of all-electric range.
Exterior
In terms of aesthetics, the new Peugeot EV stands out on the road with its tall beltline and prominent shoulders, giving it a commanding presence. The front end is kitted with an innovative front grille that blends into the body colour. It is highlighted by a sleek black band running across the front, housing ultra-compact LED headlights on all models.
Adding to the SUV’s modern styling and aerodynamic efficiency are geometrically designed 19-inch and 20-inch wheels, adorned with the new Peugeot emblem at their centre.
The colour palette comprises six hues - Obsession Blue, Ingaro Blue, Okenite White, Pearl Black, Artense Grey, and Titanium Grey. With the GT version, a two-tone paint with a shiny black roof is also available.
Interior
The cabin features an ergonomic layout, thoughtful design elements, and cutting-edge technologies. These include -
- 21-inch PEUGEOT Panoramic i-Cockpit floating screen
- Compact steering wheel with new controls and heated functionality
- Ten fully customizable touch-sensitive i-Toggles on the central dashboard for functions like navigation, media, and connectivity.
- PEUGEOT i-Connect systems, offering wireless mirroring (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto) and advanced navigation with TomTom-connected navigation
- "OK, PEUGEOT" natural language voice recognition
- AQS (Air Quality System) and Clean Cabin air treatment system
- Connected services with ChatGPT interaction, trip planning and optimization solutions, and MyPEUGEOT app functionalities for remote vehicle access and management.

Safety
The EV comes packed with more than 40 driver assistance and safety systems, taking a significant step towards semi-autonomous driving. Some of these are -
- Drive Assist Plus 2.0 system: assists the driver by using all the car's sensors and information from the connected navigation system
- Adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function: helps to maintain lane position and speed
- Semi-automatic lane change: assists the driver with lane changes
- Advance speed recommendation: detects any change in the speed limit by reading road signs
Exclusively built at the Sochaux plant, the new Peugeot e-5008 will be offered with the ALLURE CARE program, providing coverage for up to 8 years or 160,000 km, the longest warranty in Europe. The sales will begin in the autumn of 2024.
