2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 revealed globally; here’s what’s on offer

KUALA LUMPUR: Unveiled in February 2021, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 garnered praise for its innovative design, cutting-edge technology, and impressive performance worldwide. The EV has now received a comprehensive update for the year 2024, aimed at further bolstering its appeal in an increasingly competitive market.

The 2024 refresh brings a host of enhancements to the Ioniq 5, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the electric vehicle segment. Among the notable updates are a refined exterior design, a larger battery, new tech, and a new N Line sports variant. Let’s delve into the details. 

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 exterior

For the model year 2024, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets the following exterior enhancements -

• The EV benefits a refined V-shape garnish adding a sleek and sophisticated touch to the overall design
• Both the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle have been restyled to emphasise the SUV's low and wide stance, enhancing its visual appeal
• The length of the Ioniq 5 has been increased by 20 mm, bringing it to a total length of 4,655 mm. However, the other external dimensions such as width (1,890 mm), height (1,605 mm), and wheelbase (3,000 mm) remain unchanged from the previous model
• For enhanced aerodynamic performance, the rear spoiler has been extended by 50 mm, which not only adds to the vehicle's aesthetic appeal but also contributes to its overall efficiency by reducing drag
• The 2024 update also introduced new aerodynamic wheels, designed specifically to optimise airflow around the vehicle

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 interior

The interior of the vehicle has been redesigned to enhance usability and comfort, maintaining a spacious living environment. The updates include - 

• The centre console now features a physical button allowing easy access to frequently used functions such as first-row heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, and parking assist
• The EV is now equipped with a next-generation infotainment system called connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), which supports wireless Over-The-Air software updates to ensure that the major electronic controls remain up to date
• The layout of infotainment and air conditioning controls has been optimised for improved operational convenience.
• Also, the smartphone wireless charging pad has been relocated from the lower part to the upper part of the centre console to improve the usability
• A new steering wheel design with interactive pixel lights has been introduced, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 safety 

Hyundai has introduced new safety measures and driver-assistance features with the upgraded Ioniq 5 to enhance safety and ride comfort. These include - 

• Safety enhancements include reinforced body, front and rear doors, and B-pillar parts to improve side collision protection
• The vehicle is now equipped with an eight-airbag system, including second-row side airbags, for enhanced safety
• Among the newly added bits are - Hands-On Detection steering wheel, Lane Keeping Assist 2, Remote Smart Parking Assist 2, and Forward/Side/Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist
• Customer-preferred features like Intelligent Front-Lighting System, Digital Key 2, Built-In Cam 2, and second-row seat remote folding have also been incorporated
• The new Ioniq 5 also features a shock absorber to reduce road vibrations, ensuring a smoother drive

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 battery

The enhanced Ioniq 5 comes with a larger battery capacity of 84.0-kWh, replacing the previous 77.4 kWh, resulting in an increased all-electric driving range. While Hyundai has confirmed the improvement in range, specific figures have not yet been revealed. For reference, the previous 77.4 kWh unit boasted a WLTP-claimed driving range between 454 km and 507 km.

2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Line

To cater to the growing demand for sporty styling, Hyundai has added a new trim to the Ioniq 5 lineup, called the N-Line. The new variant is positioned between the upgraded base model and the high-performance Ioniq 5 N. It features a more aggressive and sporty front and rear design, characterised by unique bumpers, stylish side skirts, and exclusive 20-inch aluminium wheels. Inside, the cabin boasts an N Line steering wheel and dashboard, metal pedals, black headliner, sport seats adorned with the N logo, red contrast stitching, and two seat covering options.

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will first launch in the Korean market, with plans for a subsequent rollout in other markets later in the year.
