The BMW iX2 will be initially offered in a single xDrive30 variant, slated to go on sale in March next year. While the BMW iX2 is based on the X2, it sets itself apart with a pure-electric drivetrain and EV-specific design tweaks. The EV is powered by a dual motor setup combinedly generating a total system of 313 hp and a peak torque of 494 Nm, enabling the car to run from zero to 100 kmph in 5.6 seconds. The top speed is rated at 180 kmph.
Feeding the motors is a 64.8-kWh battery pack, which offers a driving range of 417 to 449 km (on the WLTP cycle). The battery takes 6.5 hours to juice up when using the standard 11kW AC charger, however, one can switch to 130 kW DC fast charging that can do 10-80% work in just 29 minutes.
Speaking about the EV-specific design tweaks, the EV sports a closed-off panel on the front instead of the radiator grille available on the non-electric model. The rear end has a slightly different bumper and a rear diffuser. In addition, the iX2 features a fully sealed underbody with a battery pack positioned beneath the floor, resulting in an improved aerodynamic profile for the EV. Figuratively, the iX2 achieves a lower drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd, in comparison to the X2's 0.27 Cd.
The equipment kit is almost identical to the X2 and includes - a 10.25-inch instrument panel and a 10.7-inch infotainment unit mated to BMW Operating System 9, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, dual-zone climate control, BMW Maps Navigation, USB-C ports, and advanced driver assistance systems.
Once launched, the 2024 BMW iX2 EV will rival the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQA, Volvo C40 Recharge, and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron.
