2023 Toyota Vios launched in Malaysia at RM 89,600

KUALA LUMPUR: After opening the ordering bookings for the fourth-gen Vios a month ago, UMW Toyota has finally launched the revamped sedan in Malaysia. The new Vios is locally assembled at the Toyota Assembly Services plant in Bukit Raja, Klang, and comes in two variants - E and G, priced at RM 89,600 and RM 96,000, respectively. 

Based on the new Daihatsu New Global Architecture platform, the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios measures 4,425 mm in length, 1,740 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height and spans 2,620 mm long wheelbase. While the other dimensions are marginally larger than the previous gen sedan, the wheelbase sees a significant increase of 70 mm.

Both variants of the new Vios are powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated Dual-VVT-i engine that delivers a maximum power of 106 PS and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a new CVT gearbox that houses 7 virtual ratios and offers quicker acceleration and enhanced fuel efficiency, claims Toyota.

In terms of design, the next-gen Vios benefits from an overhauled front fascia featuring sharp LED headlamps, a big central intake with air curtains, and a black bar separating the upper and lower portions. Among the other key exterior highlights are LED Daytime running lights, rear combination LED lamps, body-coloured door handles, and 16-inch wheels. Differentiating the top-spec trim are a Piano black front grille, bigger 17-inch wheels, rear LED lights, and chrome detailing.

The welcoming cabin of the updated sedan features a black and dark brown with a minimalistic dashboard design. It is kitted with tons of creature comforts, including 

• 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster (4.2-inch TFT in the Vios E)
• Smart entry & push start system
• 9-inch head unit with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
• Wireless phone charger
• Leather seats (Fabric seats in the Vios E)
• Leather steering wheel (Urethane as standard)
• Paddle shifters
• 64-colour ambient lighting
• Auto climate control (Manual system in the Vios G)
• Electronic parking brake with auto hold function

As for safety, both trims come equipped with six airbags and advanced driver-assistance gears. The latter includes Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Front Departure Alert, Pedal Misoperation Control, Blind spot monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Front Digital Video Recorder with Smartphone connectivity, Brake Assist, Hill Start Assist, and parking sensors. Also available on the top-spec Vios G are Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Control, and Auto High Beam.

Five exciting colour options available for the new Vios are Silver Metallic, Nebula Blue Metallic, Attitude Black, Spicy Scarlet, and Platinum White Pearl.
