2023 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series revealed with a new turbo-diesel engine

 KUALA LUMPUR: Alongside the revamped Land Cruiser Prado, Toyota has also pulled the wraps off the all-new Land Cruiser 70 Series in the global market. First introduced in 1984, the classic off-roader is one of the brand’s longest-running nameplates that is still on sale in a few markets, including Australia, Africa, and the Middle East.

Let’s get to know the 2023 Land Cruiser 70 Series key highlights - 

• The SUV gets a new 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel powertrain, which kicks out a maximum power of 204 PS at 3400 rpm and a peak torque of 500 Nm between 1600 rpm and 2800 rpm
• This engine exclusively comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission for the first time; it will be offered across the range, including four body styles and three grades
• The new powertrain joins the ongoing 205 PS/430 Nm 4.5-litre V8 turbo diesel, which comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission

• In terms of styling upgrades, the Land Cruiser 70 Series benefits from an all-new front fascia with a new grille design, rounded headlamps, and prominent Toyota badging
• Also, parts of the upgrade are - new black front and rear bumpers, new alloy wheels, and restyled horizontal tail lights 

• Among the interior revisions are a redesigned central console, a new 4.2-inch instrument multi-info display, and a new 6.7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity
• The automaker has also updated the Toyota Safety Sense suite of the LandCruiser 70 Series with the addition of advanced systems like lane departure alert, road sign assist, and automatic high beam 

“The LandCruiser 70 Series has built up a loyal and passionate fanbase with customers drawn to its rugged styling and legendary off-road performance and this substantially upgraded model builds upon those strengths," said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia President Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations.

“Now with a new powertrain including an automatic transmission for the first time, along with the significant increase in safety and convenience technology, the LC70 is an ideal vehicle for those working on the land or as a tool of trade and recreational users heading off on an outback adventure,” he added.
