2023 Lexus UX: What’s new

KUALA LUMPUR: While we have just received the all-new second-gen Lexus NX last week, the global market benefits from the revamped UX at the same time. The latest UX gets new tech-based features, new hybrid powertrain, and some safety, and chassis improvements. Let’s know the updates in detail.

New infotainment system

Lexus upgraded the UX’s cabin with a new infotainment unit, which has an 8-inch display as standard and 12.3-inch as optional. The new system features higher resolution, more connectivity features (wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), and a new Voice Assistant.

Upgraded safety suite

The new Lexus UX comes equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System+ 2.5 that we can also find on the NX. The pack includes the improved Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Emergency Steering Assist, and Lane Tracing Assist.

Chassis upgrades

Under the skin, the new Lexus UX gets some significant upgrades, which include the addition of 20 spot welding points on the body for the structural rigidity, and recalibration of the electronic power steering and the shock absorbers. These changes offer a more refined ride, improved steering response and better handling, claims Lexus. 

In addition, the car runs on a new pair of 18-inch Bridgestone run-flat tyres which led to reduced vibration and noise levels.

Hybrid powertrain

The revamped model exclusively comes with a hybrid powertrain. That’s a 2.0-litre inline-four mill paired with an electric motor, combinedly producing a maximum power of 181 hp. The transmission duties are handled by a CVT gearbox.

F Sport Design package

While the exterior styling of the SUV remains identical, the optional F Sport Design package adds F Sport-specific wheels, a new grille,  body-colored cladding on wheel arches, different bumpers, a black roof, and moonroof to the kit. Inside, the pack brings in F Sport-branded sport seats, scuff pedals, and F-Sport steering wheel.

Price & launch details

The deliveries of the new 2023 Lexus UX will commence soon in the US market at a likely price tag of $37,000 (approximately equal to RM 162,723).
