KUALA LUMPUR: Shortly after opening the ordering bookings for the all-new Tucson, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors launched the five-seater SUV in Malaysia today. It is offered in three fully-imported variants - 2.0 Lite, 1.6T Plus, and 1.6T Max. The prices are as follows -

The SUV has a fresh, eye-catching design with a Parametric Jewel grille on the front integrating a unique triangular texture. The grille is flanked by striking LED headlights and daytime running lights. Further accentuating the SUV’s appealing design are angular wheel arches, a full-width tail light signature, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The 1.6L variants come kitted with LED combination tail lights and 19-inch alloy wheels while the top-spec exclusively features aluminium roof rails and a powered tailgate.

2023 Hyundai Tucson engine and performance
As suggested by the names of the variants, the Malaysia-spec Hyundai Tucson comes in two engine options - 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol and 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four petrol. The former kicks out a maximum power of 156 PS at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 192 Nm at 4,500 rpm while the latter is good for making 180 PS at 5,500 rpm and 265 Nm between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm.
The transmission duties are handled by a six-speed automatic gearbox on the 2.0-litre NA and a seven-speed dual-clutch on the 1.6-litre turbo mill. Both are mated to a front-wheel drive system.
In terms of performance, the 2.0 Lite accelerates from zero to 100 kmph in 11.4 seconds and hits a top speed of 181 kmph. The 1.6T Plus and 1.6T Max, on the other hand, complete the century sprint in 8.8 seconds on their way to hitting a max speed of 201 kmph.

The standard safety kit of the new Tucson comprises - seven airbags, an anti-lock braking system, an electronic stability control, a hill start assist, a parking assist system, a conventional cruise control, and a rear occupant alert. With the mid-spec 1.6T Plus, we also get blind spot collision warning and safety exit warning, however, the top-spec 1.6T Max comes loaded with a full Hyundai SmartSense ADAS pack, which includes -
